Extremely disappointing. We love Mastro’s (the Costa Mesa and Newport restaurants), but this location does the Mastro’s name a disservice. Went for a birthday dinner on a Wednesday night, and they gave us a bar-top table right next to the kitchen. Despite our location, service was slow. Tomatoes and figs in the tomato/fig/burrata salad were both rock hard. Filet was very overcooked, so only part of our party got to eat while the other waited for a new one. Creamed spinach was under seasoned. Although we are Irvine residents, we will not come here again. Instead, we will drive further to one of the other two locations.

Our waitress seemed like she was out to lunch. Very nonchalant about things. I waited 20 minutes to get an iced tea, and the rest of the table's drinks took even longer to arrive. We were never offended water after we sat down, and the waitress even stepped away mid taking our order to shine a light on someone else's table. I understand restaurants get busy, but at Mastro's you expect a server or a busser to be helpful at any time. It was difficulty not what happened on Saturday night. Been to Mastro's in Newport many times and have never been treated so poorly. I'd stick with that one, as the Irvine location staff is not up to par.

This happened at Mastro’s Ocean Club (Irvine Spectrum Center), 772 Spectrum Center Dr, Irvine, CA 92618. Review: This was genuinely one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had, and I’m still shocked by how it was handled. We ordered one portion of food (we shared one dish between two people). We had no alcohol, no cocktails, no wine—literally only tap water. The bill still came out to almost $400, which is completely outrageous for what we received. The lamb ribs (dandeh kebab) were a disaster. They didn’t taste good at all—the flavor was awful, like a weird unpleasant “soapy/chemical” taste instead of real, high-quality meat. On top of that, the meat was burnt and tough, not tender or enjoyable in any way. Paying premium prices for food that tastes burnt and bad is unacceptable. But the biggest issue is the payment situation: my card was charged twice, and the second charge was NOT authorized by me. I called and spoke with the manager expecting them to take it seriously, but they were rude, unprofessional, and completely dismissive—like they simply didn’t care. No urgency, no accountability, no real effort to fix it. for almost $400 yes $400 Between the outrageous pricing, the terrible burnt food, the tap water, the double charge, and management acting like it’s not their problem, this place felt like a total rip-off. I will never return, and I strongly recommend others avoid this location.

I had the bread appetizer, New York Strip 12 oz, a side of fries, the mango mocktail, and the butter cake. I thoroughly enjoyed the fries, drink, bread, and the butter cake, but I feel like there was more to be desired on the meat course. The meat course was just a piece of meat on a really hot plate. Granted, the meat was cooked well and was juicy, but it’s just a piece of meat. For the price, I expected more. Still water is $10 by the way. Get tap, unless you really are looking for bottled water. There was definitely room for improvement, but I would be willing to go back in the future! Thank you!

You’re honestly better off going to Mastro’s in Newport Beach or Costa Mesa. We arrived on time for our 7:15 reservation and didn’t get seated until 8:15. I’d much rather a restaurant be upfront and not overbook than put guests in that position. At one point, they actually walked us to a table, realized it wasn’t ours, and brought us back outside to continue waiting, which was frustrating. The space feels too small for the volume they’re trying to handle, and the front check-in area was chaotic. Coming from a customer-service background, if my clients had to wait an hour past their reservation, I would absolutely expect management to acknowledge it—at least a brief apology and a thank-you for the patience. That goes a long way and shows class. The food was good, but the overall experience fell short. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning to the Irvine location.
