As someone who has experienced hamburgers across numerous countries and price ranges, I consider myself highly knowledgeable about what constitutes a truly high-quality burger. In my opinion, Five Guys does not live up to its reputation. Their burgers are excessively greasy, suggesting a higher fat ratio—closer to 70/30 rather than the ideal 80/20 blend that produces flavor without overwhelming greasiness. This indicates the use of lower-quality meat. The fries present a similar issue. While peanut oil can produce excellent results, it is evident that the oil at Five Guys is not refreshed regularly. Based on taste and texture, it appears the same oil may be used for several weeks at a time, which significantly affects fry quality. Because of these factors, I no longer consider Five Guys a worthwhile option. The hype surrounding the brand is, in my view, overrated. For the same approximate price point—around $15—Red Robin offers far superior value, including better ingredients, more flavorful burgers, and unlimited fries or alternative sides. Additionally, Lazy Dog’s Cowboy Ribeye Burger stands out as an exceptional menu item with impressive flavor and quality. In my experience, those who consider Five Guys a top-tier burger likely have not explored truly high-quality options. At best, Five Guys is comparable to establishments like Tom’s or Tams—adequate, but far from exceptional.
