I recently visited Afghan Kabob House, and it delivered a flavorful and authentic introduction to Afghan cuisine in the Downey area. The restaurant has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that reflects the warm hospitality commonly associated with Afghan dining. The space is simple and comfortable, allowing diners to focus primarily on the food and the traditional flavors that define the cuisine. Afghan cooking is known for its balance of aromatic spices, grilled meats, and rice-based dishes, and the menu here reflects those traditions well. Kabobs are clearly one of the highlights. The meats were marinated with a blend of spices and grilled carefully to achieve both tenderness and a slight char from the open flame. The result was flavorful without being overly heavy, allowing the natural quality of the meat to stand out. Another standout element of the meal was the rice dishes, particularly the long-grain basmati rice that accompanies many Afghan plates. Afghan rice preparation is often elevated with subtle spices, raisins, or carrots that add texture and gentle sweetness. The rice served alongside the kabobs provided a perfect balance to the savory grilled meats and helped create a complete and satisfying meal. The menu also included traditional sides and sauces that complemented the main dishes well. Yogurt-based sauces and fresh salads added brightness to the plate, while the use of herbs and mild spices created layered flavors that felt both comforting and distinctive. Service during the visit was friendly and welcoming. The staff maintained a relaxed and approachable attitude, which helped make the experience feel comfortable for diners who might be new to Afghan cuisine. Their willingness to explain dishes added to the overall sense of hospitality. The atmosphere reflects the character of a neighborhood restaurant where authenticity and flavor take priority over elaborate presentation. It is the kind of place where guests can enjoy traditional recipes prepared with care and consistency. Overall, Afghan Kabob House offers a well-executed Afghan dining experience with flavorful grilled meats, aromatic rice dishes, and welcoming service. It stands out as a strong option for anyone interested in exploring Afghan cuisine in the Downey area.

I ordered kebab wraps for our nonprofit organization from them, they gave my discount and at the meanwhile the food was great. All our girls loved it and I totally recommend them. I am sad they are far away from us, but they are the kindest people and always help good causes. Thank you for being a great!

I ordered the chicken/beef kabobs plate with an afghani salad. They also provided a green sauce and white yogurt sauce. I was told that the green sauce is for the beef and the white sauce for the chicken. Personally I loved the green sauce. The dish is very generous in portion and everything was delicious. I also ordered a Turkish Salaam Cola, and loved it as well. Overall the experience was warm and homey and the ambience was very relaxed. I came in on Wednesday evening. The place is small mom and pop type restaurant.
