We had reservations and requested a table inside the restaurant, not on the interior or exterior patio. We came for dinner at 4:00 pm, so well before the rush specifically to have a quiet dining experience. When we arrived, the hostess asked us if the interior patio was okay. We said no and she proceeded to ask why. We told her we need a warmer temperature and wanted quieter location. She said the heaters were on and we would be the only people in there. We weren't thrilled, but followed to our table. The restaurant was extremely empty and there were more people in the interior patio than the restaurant! The heater was on, but that doesn't help below the table for lower extremities to stay warm. It was not quiet and before we even finished our meal and dessert it was super noisy in there. They didn't honor our request and flat out lied to us about the interior patio. Service was only so-so and the food wasn't that good. The tuna was dry. The lava cake was the only redeeming factor. We have no intent on ever returning to this restaurant. For a high end restaurant they sure lacked.

We stopped by Peohe’s because we were considering hosting my mom’s 70th birthday there, but after our experience, that’s definitely not happening.
While we were seated right away, everything else went downhill. The beer selection was surprisingly bad, and the bottled IPA I ordered tasted skunked. The prime rib sliders were soggy and clearly not fresh...honestly pretty disgusting. Service was also painfully slow, even though it wasn’t busy.
For a place that charges premium prices for a luxury event space, the quality just wasn’t there. It’s a very expensive space for very poor food and service. Definitely not somewhere we’d trust to host an important milestone celebration. Would not recommend.

We had a reservation for a specific time and arrived exactly as scheduled. Upon arrival, we were told we would need to wait about an hour because “all tables were occupied.”
However, after walking around to the waterfront side of the restaurant, we could clearly see that most of the tables were actually empty. This was very confusing and frankly disappointing.
If a restaurant accepts reservations, guests reasonably expect their table to be available at the agreed time. In our case, not only was it unavailable, but the explanation given did not match what we could visibly see.
This experience felt disorganized and disrespectful of our time. Unfortunately, after this, we have no desire to return.

I was excited to have a reservation at Peohe’s on Valentine’s Day last night. I have been there before and I like the food and it’s very pretty inside. But it turned out to be one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. Our reservation was for 945 when I got there a few minutes early I was told they were running 30 minutes behind. After 30 minutes I went to check again and they said they were running 45 minutes behind so in the meantime, I went to the bar with my boyfriend and we were sitting there at the bar waiting to order a drink. After about 20 minutes, I looked at this one bartender who appeared to have a moment and I said can I order a drink and he looked at me and sternly said no! I was shocked he spoke to a customer this way, but I thought maybe he’s not a bartender. Maybe he is a far back or something. But still he should have been more polite. Five minutes later, he came up to me and took my order. I decided to let this go. I went to check in again and the hostess told me the kitchen is deadlocked. I said what do you mean? And she said they are pumping stuff out as fast as they can, but I’m not giving anybody an estimate anymore. I said can you give me a ballpark figure so I know if I should stay and wait? And she said you are number six. So we finally get a table about an hour and a half later than we were supposed to. The waiter appeared to be stressed and was not doing a very good job of hiding it. I asked him how his night was. I tried to be nice, but he continued to be rude for the whole meal. I was embarrassed also because this was my first Valentine’s Day with my new boyfriend. The portions were small and the food was not very good this time. If I ever go there again, I will go at lunchtime because as I recall, the staff was much nicer that shift.I was excited to have a reservation at Peohe’s on Valentine’s Day last night. Disappointing Experience at Peohe’s After Many Years
We first visited Peohe’s 34 years ago—the day after we got married—so it has always held a special place in our hearts. We hadn’t been back in several years, but when I saw they were part of San Diego Restaurant Week—and it coincided with my wife’s birthday—I decided to book a nice dinner for us.
Unfortunately, the meal was disappointing. There were three of us, and each entrée had issues: cold rice, hard mashed potatoes, and a general lack of flavor. To make matters worse, my daughter ordered the crème brûlée, which had macadamia nut pieces on top that tasted strange—almost like plastic. After such a special history with Peohe’s, we were really hoping for better. Sadly, we won’t be returning.
On a brighter note, we also visited Duke’s in La Jolla this week, and it was excellent—great flavors and a fantastic Hawaiian-style atmosphere. If you’re looking for that island vibe, I’d recommend Duke’s instead.
