I didn’t need bags or the basket, just a way to get groceries to the parking lot. Instead of a calm explanation, the attendant raised her voice again, then spoke to me in a hostile, dismissive tone after I explained what I was doing. To make matters worse, there were no carts available inside, so I had to walk partway to the parking lot before finding one. Policies aside, the issue here was how I was treated. If your goal is to make customers feel unwelcome or talked down to, this was a success. If you don’t trust customers to return baskets, reconsider offering them or at least train staff to handle the situation professionally.
