Lovina is uniquely tip-free; our pricing includes a living wage, 401k with employer match, two weeks paid vacation, paid sick leave, and health/ dental insurance benefits for all our hard-working employees! Recognized as "Best of the Best" on Trip Adviser for Vegan/ Gluten-Free options, Lovina also satisfies omnivores with locally famous Bolognese and wild Halibut. Our menu is seasonal and locally sourced. Woman-owned by Calistoga local Jennifer Bennett (previous owner of Zazie restaurant in SF), Lovina is unique & welcoming. We feature Jen's handmade pottery, thrown, glazed, and at her home studio here in Calistoga.
Loved this place, vegan options were very good! We had fresh sourdough bread, little gem salad- sub balsamic dressing, the endive cups- small portion for the $, I would skip that one, broccolini was exceptional, lasagna nice portion but the price for all pretty high, I know prices had tip built in but still on high side for portion size!
The vegan snickers.. was bomb!
Lovely staff.

Food was incredible and the service even better. I guess that's what happens when you pay your staff with real wages (there is no tipping required - the dinners are reasonably priced, just a bit higher than normal, to provide real pay and benefits the the staff). It was the best dinner we had during our 3 night Calistoga weekend

I want to preface this by saying feel sorry having to give a low rating for a dinner that was supposed to be special.
I was in the area with my girlfriend for her birthday and so I was researching good places to go for a special occasion. Lovina as well as a few other options were recommended and we ended up going with Lovina. I made sure there was a note to the staff that it was my girlfriend's birthday.
I expected something as simple as a happy birthday which you generally would when you're going out to a restaurant for a birthday, especially one charging a premium price for their food. The server that waited on us did not ask if we were celebrating anything and she never once said happy birthday to my girlfriend.
I went to my car to grab gifts that I was going to surprise my girlfriend with at our dinner and on my way to the car I asked the host I believe if they were aware it was my girlfriend's birthday because it seemed that they did not. He assured me that they did they were aware that we were there to celebrate a birthday. We were almost done with our meal and while my girlfriend stepped away I asked one of the other servers again if they were aware it was her birthday and if they do anything for birthdays, she assured me they do. Our server gave us our cheek and said nothing about her birthday. The second server ended up being the only one who told my girlfriend happy birthday during our entire dinner. The server rarely checked on us or even refilled our water.
Unfortunately I would say the service was subpar the food was decent but not something that I would ever spend over $100 on for two plates of pasta and bread and butter.
I really don't ever write reviews but I was so disappointed with the experience I ended up giving my girlfriend her gifts later at that evening because I felt like it was not the right time at all and I honestly wished we had went somewhere else that would have done something as simple as said happy birthday to her during our dinner which they were very clearly aware of it just felt like they did not care and I don't know if that has anything to do with the tip being included with the price of the meals but I hope this review is related to the owner because I really don't like having to give a negative review I wish I had a better experience and I hope that others have a better experience than we did.

overall below average experience but the price range is anything but. with the $$ that comes with the dishes and cocktails you’d expect more from the service speed, the food quality, and overall server friendiness. we got a server when we first sat outside, took her ages to even get our order. when she asked if we wanted “bread for the table”, we assumed that that meant, like any italian-adjacent restaurant, free bread and butter for the table. well no, she never specified that this was a $9 sourdough option on the menu. after we asked for her to take it back since we’re not paying for more than we expected, she put up a very condescending face and voice. we then decided to move inside with the flies and little critters bothering us, she once again, sighed as if we were causing the worst possible trouble without asking nicely.
after we went inside though, the bartender who served us the rest of the night was very friendly and quick with our requests despite the many many drinks he was making for the whole restaurant.
would kindly recommend the restaurant owner to consider staffing more servers for the number of tables and guests around each night since some seem to be acting as if they’re being underpaid and overworked.
