  Workers are rude there especially the security guard is racist following me and my mom around who is in a wheel chair. Than goes outside to take a picture of our car. Mind you every other person walks in but when us indigenous peoples go shopping there they do not treat us well. Told the lady all of our stuff was together and she started getting mad at my boyfriend. We only go there to shop for what we need. And we do not need your workers treating people differently than the security guard who is also the same color as us. Buy low please do better with your workers. Make sure they aren't treating costumers crappy.

  It's near my home, so I usually buy some stuff there. I went a couple of days back to buy milk, butter, and whipped butter. I didn't check the expiry date as I thought it would be fresh. I had breakfast and started having stomach pain within 5 minutes. I checked the butter; it had expired in March 2026, and they were still selling it. I went back, and the guy at customer service said sorry. Please double-check the expiry date when you're buying. Disappointed with the products.

  11 months ago I bought two whole chickens from Buy Low Foods Nanaimo. I opened them two days before the best-before date and both were completely rotten and smelled terrible. I called the store right away and spoke with the female meat manager (who still works there). I offered to bring in the chickens in their packaging, or go through my garbage bin for the receipt. She was polite and casual and told me not to bother bringing the chickens or the receipt — just come in, introduce myself, and she’d make it right. She was very nonchalant and I was impressed by her customer service and willingness to make it easy on me. A few days later I visited her at the store. She went in to the back and brought out two replacement chickens that were actually more expensive than the ones I’d originally bought. When I asked how this was compensation, she said there was no proof I’d ever purchased chickens there and suggested maybe I’d already eaten them. I left frustrated and out $23. I should have spoken to the store manager, but instead I avoided returning for several months. This week I came back for the sale on lean ground beef. I bought two tubes (about $24 each) in opaque packaging. When I opened them at home the meat looked heavily over-ground, had far more fat than the 17% Canadian standard for “lean,” and had a strange pasty texture unlike any ground beef I’ve bought before. I cooked three 4-oz patties today — they shrank by about a third and released a ridiculous amount of fat (see photo). About six weeks ago the store was advertising whole chickens on sale and optimistically I went in to have a look. Every bird on the shelf was sitting in a large pool of pink liquid on its foam tray. Gross. This meat department needs serious attention to quality standards and staff training. Nanaimo shoppers deserve better.
