  Don’t judge this place by its exterior—step inside, because the food is absolutely worth it! We ordered the oxtails (more expensive than the other meat options but definitely worth it), chicken, dirty rice, mac n cheese, and yams. The food is hot, perfectly seasoned, and the meat is so tender it falls off the bone. Oh….and the portion sizes are very generous! We stopped here on our drive to Vegas and we will definitely be stopping here in our way back to California!

  I’ll give it two stars because the guy serving the food was friendly. The food itself was borderline edible. Chewy meat mixed with flavorless gravy and overcooked veggies. I would go out of my way to avoid this place at all cost. Do not let the positive reviews fool you, this is not a place you want to eat at.

  We read this was the best place to eat in Barstow, so as we passed thru we thought we’d give it a try. We’ve had soul food in the south, but this was not even close to being one of the best places to eat !!! Chicken was moist but didn’t have much flavor, my husband had the one big rib that was 90% fat. The Mac and cheese was flavorless and the sweet potatoes were way too sweet and the green beans had a lot of flavor but needed to be cooked longer, as they were crisp not even al dante. The half of piece of corn was great but $50 for all of that was insane !

  Traveling from Prescott to the bay area my wife and I found this place. The food was amazing. The right combination of spices. I had never had ox tail so he gave me a taste. The service was top notch. Definitely a stop from now on when traveling through Barstow. Price was very reasonable.

  Can we give the food 6 stars? Everything was amazing. The meat was tender and falling off the bone. The BBQ was drool-worthy. Everything was made from scratch with love. The portions were generous, and the owner and staff were lovely. They made us feel at home. Service was quick and you can choose from many selections. We will be routing to the Barstow Tesla charger in the future specifically so we can eat at Southern Twist! p.s. we absolutely recommend trying the baked beans and pulled pork - yum, yumm, yummm!!!
