  The oxtails and rice was good; I wasn't feeling the sides. I never had cabbage that tasted like that (if I did, I would never eat cabbage). They ran out of yams, I never order mac n cheese, but I didn't see anything that I wanted so I tried the mac n cheese (lawd two small bites). I was leaving the sides there, but my daughter took the mac n cheese. I will try a place once, going back depends on the taste. Sorry I won't be going back. They do have many people who gave good reviews; my taste is above most due to eating in L.A. Everything I say is my opinion; go try for yourself, the lady that took our order was nice.

  Passed thru Barstow going thru our Route 66 adventure, and was looking for dinner unique to the area. Southern Twist had good reviews, and an A Rating so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the oxtail for my main with mac-n-cheese and the collard greens. My boyfriend order the dino rib with butter beams and black-eyed peas. DELISH! We're so glad we stopped in. It hit the spot esp during this long road trip we are on. The oxtail with gravy was flavorful and cooked well, the dino beef rib was tender and filling. Out of the sides we rated them with the butter beans being the best, followed by the black-eyed peas, collard greens and then mac-n-cheese. In terms of service, the gal was very thorough with explaining how to order, pricing, and was very welcoming. Rated the atmosphere shy of 5-stars because the dining area was very dark.

  WoW! Incredible menu. Everything looked great, smelled amazing, good portions and what I got tasted so good that it could have been cooked by Grandma! I thought it was a buffet when I walked in, sadly it wasn't. On our way back to Los Angeles. I'm ordering two different meals to really enjoy myself. If you love southern cuisine and your on your way to Vegas, on your way to LA or if you live close to Barstow, this is a must stop for breakfast, brunch lunch, supper, dinner or just because you love eating great food. The fried okra, fried chicken, Mac & cheese, collard greens and candied yams were delicious and perfectly cook.

  I was looking around for some food... Then I smelled the smoker going. Oh. My. God! That smell did not lie! This food is DELICIOUS! The menu changes up but you will definitely find something. Dirty rice with brisket in it! Amazing! Mac and cheese! Yes, sir. I had smothered pork chops and it was HUGE!

  My wife and I were in Barstow for a couple of days to visit family. On our second night, we read about Southern Twist and thought southern food sounded wonderful (especially when we don't get it much in Calif). We were greeted by Izzy who was about as friendly as they come. Izzy was our greeter, our server, and our wait person at the table. As my wife and I looked over all the entrées, we just couldn't decide, it all looked so good. Izzy told us her favorite are the Turkey wings which are smothered in a delicious sauce. She served them on a bed of very tasty rice and then asked which sides we'd like. We both chose the mac and cheese (which is exactly how mac and cheese should be, the kind you see on cooking shows with the slightly crispy top :)) and the butter beans. We love butter beans and these were so thick and delicious and even had a slight bite to them, about the best I've ever had. Izzy filled out plates up well and we definitely didn't leave hungry. We don't know when we'll be returning to visit the family, but I do think Southern Twist will be on our agenda every night we're in town. We just don't get that kind of food where we live. By the way, the smothered turkey wings were outstanding!
