If you want a poor eating & customer-service experience… definitely plan your meal here... 🤦♀️😂
I generally LOVE Arby’s and was actually excited to see one in Strathmore while passing through. I ordered through the drive-thru, got back on the road, opened my Great Canadian #SlowRoastedBeef sandwich at the next light and… ICE COLD.
Not “a little cool.”
I mean take-the-meat-out-of-the-fridge-and-plop-it-on-the-bun kinda cold. 😂
So now I get to navigate all the turns required to get myself headed back in the opposite direction and go BACK through the drive-thru to return it.
And this is where things got interesting.
Instead of simply saying, “Sorry about that. Would you like a full refund, would you like us to remake it, or can we get you another sandwich?” — which would have taken about 30 seconds and completely resolved the issue — I was actually ARGUED WITH and told the reason the meat was cold was because there was lettuce and tomato on the sandwich.
RIGHT. 😂😂😂
Apparently, within a matter of 1 minute, this incredibly powerful produce managed to refrigerate several layers of roast beef completely through to the middle while simultaneously preventing the extra cheddar cheese I paid for from melting even one iota.
Who knew lettuce and tomato had that kind of cooling capacity? 🥬🍅❄️😂
Meanwhile, the curly fries weren't helping matters either. They were mostly those tiny, broken, end-of-the-bag pieces and tasted old — like they'd been cooked in old oil or possibly taken for another trip through the fryer. Definitely nothing resembling the Arby’s curly fries I normally love.
But here's the thing: food gets made incorrectly sometimes. Mistakes happen. No big deal.
What turned this into such an unnecessarily ridiculous experience was the customer service afterward.
Rather than simply taking ownership, replacing the sandwich or refunding the meal and allowing everyone to carry on with their day, they chose to argue about it and then nickel-and-dime the refund.
They would ONLY refund the sandwich.
Fine.
Except they didn't even refund the sandwich in full, including the additional charge for the extra cheese I had paid for.
Then I was handed a refund receipt showing that I had supposedly received MORE money back than I was actually given — followed by yet another attempt to justify that.
At that point…
WHAT ARE WE EVEN DOING HERE?! 😂
It's a sandwich.
I didn't need an investigation.
I didn't need a debate.
I definitely didn't need a lesson on the thermal properties of lettuce.
And I certainly didn't need to waste this much time turning around, driving back and arguing over a few dollars because someone couldn't simply take ownership of a mistake.
“Sorry about that. Would you like us to remake it, give you another sandwich or refund your meal?”
DONE.
Unfortunately, there isn't anything about this particular experience I could recommend.
In all my fast-food experiences — and thankfully there haven't been a plethora 😂 — this may actually take the prize for the most unnecessarily ridiculous.
Sorry, Arby’s Strathmore. I’ll happily continue eating at and supporting Arby’s elsewhere, but this location definitely won't be getting another dime of my money.
On the bright side, I did learn something today:
Never underestimate the refrigeration capabilities of lettuce and tomato. 🥬🍅❄️
