- KJkamal jassal2 days ago1.0Very disappointing experience at Blanco Cantina and honestly some pretty serious cleanliness concerns.We came in about an hour before closing. The first thing our server told us was that they closed in about an hour and last call was in 40 minutes. She had a bit of an attitude about it, but we didn’t really care. The bigger issue was that the whole time we were there, it felt like everyone was rushing to clean up and leave. I understand it was later at night, but if you’re still open and seating customers, they shouldn’t feel rushed. We sat down and even the table was loose. If you leaned on one side, the other side would lift up because it looked like it wasn’t properly screwed into the base. We didn’t complain and just dealt with it. The worst part was the drinks. Three of us ordered Diet Cokes. They were all really flat, and then we noticed white, slimy-looking stuff floating inside the drinks. We showed our server and he told us it was “salt” that fell because they were using a bucket of ice and the ice was causing it. We asked for new Diet Cokes because obviously we weren’t going to drink that. When the new ones came, 2 out of the 3 had the same white stuff floating in them AGAIN. At that point it was just disgusting. If it really was coming from the ice, then why is that ice being put into people’s drinks? And if it wasn’t the ice, then it could have been coming from the fountain machine. Either way, something was clearly wrong and it should have been taken seriously. Two of us didn’t even drink our Diet Cokes after that, but we were still charged for them. Nobody came over to apologize, no manager spoke to us, nothing was taken off the bill and there was really no accountability. It was just brushed off as being salt. Then I went to the washroom to wash my hands and there was no proper hand soap. What was in the dispenser appeared to be hand sanitizer instead of soap. That made the whole situation even worse. In a restaurant, proper handwashing and cleanliness should be one of the most basic things. The tacos themselves were actually good, and I’ll give them credit for that. But the rest of the experience completely ruined it. Between the loose table, being rushed because they were closing, extremely flat Diet Cokes, white slimy stuff floating in multiple drinks twice, being told it was from the ice, still being charged for drinks we wouldn’t drink, and then finding no proper soap in the washroom, there were way too many cleanliness concerns for one visit. We will definitely not be back. I will also be reporting what we saw to Alberta Health Services so they can look into it and decide if an inspection is needed. Hopefully management takes these concerns seriously because what we experienced was honestly unacceptable.
