We ended up having breakfast in the Sidecut Steakhouse due to the overflow from Braidwood Tavern. Both establishments are located within the same space with Braidwood Tavern being more of a traditional restaurant and Sidecut is the Steakhouse. Both restaurants are stunning inside, you can't go wrong with either place!

We were staying in the hotel for our honeymoon and it was also my husbands birthday. From start to finish they made us feel so special. The food was absolutely amazing, the bread to start was the best I have ever had, the steak, the sides everything was just so delicious. To finish they brought out some delicious treats to celebrate our special experiences. What an amazing experience. The staff were super and the atmosphere was also amazing. Photos really don’t do it justice but I would definitely recommend
tldr; don’t go
long thoughts below
mind you, this review is written critically relative to the $650 bill we paid. at this fine dining price point, i expect good food and attention to detail.
food: mid on average
- mac and cheese (side) ordered as per server’s recommendation as a “staff favourite”.. $25 kraft dinner? 0/5, the WORST restaurant mac and cheese ive ever had
- wagyu fat potatoes: okay, but not for the price
- tartar was good
- wellington was enjoyed as well
- wine recommendation, fine
- cocktail was fine
- complimentary bread/butter.. why is the butter sweet? with a savoury, herby bread. doesn’t make sense as an opener
service: confusing? unprofessional, specifically at this price point
- confusing to even get into the restaurant. have to stop by the connecting restaurants hostess desk and then sat to wait and then redirected to ANOTHER hostess desk. why am i walking through an entire restaurant to reach sidecut??
- staff were fumbling around when placing cutlery, clearing the table, etc
- they do not dry scrape the table of crumbs, instead wet towel and spread the mess around first!
- i think for a table of two, we should be advised of the serving size, especially when we’re talked into multiple sides and appetizer has already been ordered
- giving us a cup of ice when specifically asking for a ice water?
- server commented on their burning hand while cutting the wellington table side. considering how many are made in a day, shouldn’t there be a set protocol as to not risk staff burning their hands?
- when refilling our waters, spilled said water, wetting my napkin and the table, paused in notice, and then moved on with no intention to address it
- asked how we should reheat our leftover wellington at home, was told to either microwave or eat it cold?
- put our to-go bag on the sauced up, dirty area of the table instead of a clean area
- got home and the to go boxes weren’t closed properly
Chateaubriand was phenomenal, flavorful steak tartare was composed of caviar, egg, Parmesan so delicious, burrata had arugula and mushrooms. The miso eggplant app was nice. Dessert we indulged in the
Chocolate banana orange cake which was rich and flavorful, we did get the potato side it was nice. Our server Teagan from London was knowledgeable, professional, and exceptionally hospitable. We enjoyed the cocktails and atmosphere. Truly a perfect experience.
Date of Visit: 25/02/2026
What I tried:
Appetizers - Charred Baby Gem Caesar
Mains - Ribeye (Medium Rare)
Sides - Yukon Potato Purée, Wagyu Fat Pemberton Potatoes, Sautéed Broccolini
Desserts - Dark Chocolate Soufflé
TLDR:
Favourite dish I had - The Ribeye.
What dish would I skip if I went again - The Broccolini, simply because of how good the other sides are.
Would I visit again - Absolutely, it was maybe the best place I tried on this trip.
Longer Notes:
To anyone considering it, I would heavily recommend Sidecut, I've gotten to go several times, and every time I've been it has always been the best dinner of my entire trip. That being said, it can be quite expensive (but it is definitely worth it). I am a big fan of Ribeyes, when done well they can really bring out the flavour of the fat. I think the one I had was cooked perfectly (very tender), well marbled, and better than most places I've been even in Toronto. I typically really enjoy broccoli/broccolini dishes (and this one was no exception), so it was an easy pick. Since I was with other people, I got to try a few other sides though, and in my opinion the Potato Purée was just so much better I'd easily choose that instead next time.
