Deceptive country-of-origin advertising.
I pay attention to where my food comes from. Up until now, I’ve taken Save-On-Foods at their word.
For example, I only buy pumpkin seeds from North America or Europe.
I’d been ordering “European Pumpkin Seeds” online from Save-On for some time before I became suspicious and did a bit of research.
The pumpkin seeds that they were advertising as European and more nutritious than Chinese seeds turned out to actually be from China.
I don’t see how this isn’t flat out illegal. I emailed the store and was a given a refund for a single purchase along with some corporate jargon, such as “We’re going to use this as a learning experience.”
The first pic is from the Save-On website when I ordered the seeds. The second is from the supplier’s website. Save-On has now updated their website, due to my complaint, and now gives a slippery sales pitch about the seeds, but still doesn’t make it possible to know they’re from China.
They’ve half fixed this one case of deception on their website, but I’ve become concerned that selling food from China to unwitting Canadians is a major portion of their business. Most of their packaging makes it impossible to tell the true origin of the products we’re eating.
I’ve stopped shopping at Save-On simply for the reason I don’t want to be lied to about the food I’m purchasing.
Who’s monitoring these people?

Picked up a Greek yogurt from Save-On-Foods and it turned out to be expired. This isn’t the first time I’ve had issues like this here, and it’s really disappointing. I usually avoid this location, but stopped in out of convenience and definitely regretted it. Please pay more attention to product expiry dates; customers shouldn’t have to double-check everything before buying.

Today, I purchased the ready to go buffalo wrap and egg salad sandwich. They were horrendous! the chicken was hard as a brick despite heating it in a microwave. This used to be pretty good a few years ago.
Very poorly put together for $16 total. Total waste of money.
