It used to be best Chinese food in town, Garlic pork quality is stringy cheap meat. Fried rice is very sub par rice and frozen veg it seems. Chow mein is not great either. Noodles over done.

I am usually hesitant to leave negative reviews, especially for businesses I have frequented many times and have had a good experience with for the most part. On Monday, November 3rd, I bought some baby cucumbers and a salad dressing to add to a salad I regularly make for work. I brought the cucumbers home and put them directly in the fridge. The following morning, I opened the bag for the first time to cut them up and noticed a few were soft. I did not think much of it at the time. I assumed they might be bruised or that the skin was thinner depending on how they were grown. I cut them up and added them to my salad on Tuesday morning. On Wednesday morning (today), I went to make another salad and found that a white or gray sludge had appeared on the cucumbers. They were extremely soft, to the point that touching them caused my finger to go right through. They were clearly rotten and moldy. Unfortunately, I had already added a few to my salad, which meant I had to throw everything out and make an unplanned trip to Subway for a $20 lunch. While disappointing, I understand that no grocery store is perfect, and sometimes spoiled produce slips through. That is part of retail, and I understand that it happens. Later that day, I went back to the store for some snacks and decided to let a staff member know that the cucumbers on the shelf might be spoiled. The employee was very friendly and understanding, and even offered me a refund if I had a receipt or a More Rewards card. I did not have either, as I chose not to collect my receipt at purchase. It was my choice not to collect the receipt at the time of purchace and I take responsibility for it. What concerned me more was that the staff member mentioned there was no produce person working at the time, and that they would likely check the cucumbers the next day. Given that the cucumbers were likely already bad, that is not a food-safe response, as other customers could have purchased them in the meantime. It would have taken very little effort to ask another team member to take a quick look. To be clear, I have nothing but good things to say about the staff I spoke with. They were polite, kind, and professional. My concern seems to be with store policy or procedure, not the individual employees. I would also like to mention that people are human, and accidents happen. Lastly, I mentioned this to my landlord, and they said they had the same experience with the exact same cucumbers a few weeks earlier. Because of that, I would strongly recommend that Quality Foods review or discontinue this cucumber supplier to prevent future issues. I understand that things happen and people do not always make the best decision in the moment. This review is based entirely on my own personal experience and may not reflect the experiences of other customers. My intention is not to be harsh, but to highlight an issue that can be easily fixed to protect customers and maintain the store’s good reputation.

We absolutely love this grocery store. Great atmosphere, good prices. Smells lovely everytime when you walk into the flower area. Customer service is wonderful and one of the few places left that still bag your groceries for you and do it well. We have switched to this grocery and refuse to go anywhere else anymore.

My second time to Quality Foods Chinese Kitchen in the past few months. I realize it is what it is, but that should not excuse subpar food at very high prices, regardless of what you are selling. We had 2 combos (chow mein, fried rice and 2 extras), plus a small order of deep fried shrimp. The shrimp were actually the best thing we had, and reminded me of similar versions of this staple western Chinese food that’s been around longer than me. Their chow mein this time was actually a bit better than a few months ago, but it wasn’t fried at all, more like lo mein. The fried rice was just gross, frozen mixed vegetables, not fried at all, just steamed. Both of these main sides were bland, tasteless, and most of them went into the bin. The lemon chicken and ginger beef were just ok, and I saw them come out of the kitchen fresh. They were decent quality meat with the standard sweet/sour sauces, but for the price and flavour, I wasn’t happy. Then there was the mixed vegetable chop suey – cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, etc. It was off, again it was bland and smelled a bit weird/fishy, it also went into the bin. I paid $50+ for this from a grocery store, so I expect much more, and at least some attention to detail and using local ingredients especially at this time of year. Doubtful that I’ll be back here.
