This place was nominated for a James Beard award in 20225. It is reasonably priced with generous portions. I always make a reservation, and even then, there is still a bit of a wait.
My favorite drink is the El Carrizal. It’s the best seller and includes Casa Noble, Fresh Jalapeño, Fresh Lime Juice, Pricky Pear Puree, and Agave for $13.
Their birria tacos and birria soup are yummy and will leave you feeling full. The noodles in the birria ramen are not my favorite, I stick with the soup. The combo plate is a great deal, and you also can’t go wrong with their tacos.
The space is small, and it can get loud. This is a great place to bring out of town guests to show them what Tucson Mexican food is really about.

I stopped by Amelia‘s to pick up a quesabirria taco with the consume. I had a stroke recently which makes it very difficult for me to get in and out of a restaurant yet alone in and out of my car. I had a to-go order and Ashley was kind enough to bring my food out to me in my car so I didn’t have to pull out my walker to walk in and pick up my food and take it back out to the car. She was very friendly and very helpful. Just for her kindness alone I would give them 100%.But when you add that with the food you have a great experience. Thank you.

Love the outdoor seating option but everything else left much to be desired on our last visit. The food was subpar (it seems as there has been a menu overhaul which was not favorable to vegetarians and vegan diners) dishes were not served as described on the menu. We asked to redeem a digital g.c. and it seemed to cause a commotion throughout all thw wait staff. Needless to say we won't be returning anytime soon.

We had a 6p reservation. We weren’t seated until 6:30p, and then waited until 6:50 for chips. Had to ask for water as we watched everyone around us get served right away. Our bar drinks actually came out after our meals. I kid you not when I say EVERY order had something wrong. Food was mis-entered, drinks came out wrong, it was an absolute nightmare. Finally, the check came out and it was totally wrong. Items doubled up, food we didn’t order on the check. Absolutely crazy and we never heard a single apology. Not sure if our experience was just a bad server, or if this is the norm, but it was a really poor experience. Will not go back.

We heard about Amelia’s when we were asking for restaurant recs so decided to give it a try tonite. It exceeded our expectations in both food and service. Quality ingredients. Thoughtful presentation. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. I ordered the Quesabirria Tacos and my husband ordered the Chicken Enchiladas (1 mole, 1 green sauce). I snuck a few bites of his because it looked incredible. The green sauce was out of this world. Unbelievably good and easily one of better enchiladas I’ve ever tasted! We both loved our meals. The beans are different than most Mexican restaurants - in a good way. No lard in them and they’re so smooth and crazy rich in flavor. A bit of a smoky note to them. Very good. The whole meal was absolutely delish! Service was great, too. We both commented that every Staff member was super friendly! Our Server, Maribel, was SO kind and helpful with the menu and answering questions about it and Tucson in general (we aren’t from here) and beyond that she was just super sweet and enjoyable to talk with. Even though she was busy she still managed to make us feel like we were her only customers. We had a wonderful visit to Amelia’s and would for sure return. Their margaritas alone are worth that - perfection.
Also worth noting, I have a gluten allergy and they were helpful with helping me navigate what I could and couldn’t have.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in this spot Lastly, just a heads up, if there’s more than 2 in your party you may want to snag a reservation as it is a pretty small place!
