The carne asada and grilled shrimp chimichangas from Amelia’s Mexican Kitchen on East Grant Rd were really good—flavorful meat, crispy chimis, and the red sauce on the side was solid. We enjoyed what we got. We ordered sauce on the side for both meals and expected both red and green. The green sauce was completely missing, which was disappointing. Living 20 minutes away, driving back wasn’t an option, and I really don’t like having to double-check orders every time to make sure nothing’s missing. That hassle knocks it down for me. Food quality earns it some credit, but the missing sauce and the extra effort required drop it to 3 stars. Hope they tighten up on to-go accuracy.

We were in town visiting from Texas, and I wish I could give a negative rating for their service!!! We were a larger party of 7. We were seated promptly. Great!!! We waited for about five minutes for a waitress. She took our drink/food orders. Wait time was a bit longer which is perfectly fine considering we were a big group. A different staff member brought out all but one order of nachos. We waited another five minutes or so for that! We ordered a side of jalapeño and waited another five minutes for that! We asked for a refill and she stated their machines were malfunctioning and a worker from Coke was on their way to fix it. That was the last time we saw our waitress. We asked a staff member if a different drink could be substituted. She brought Mexican Coke and placed the unopened bottle on the table and walked away. Didn’t even have the damn respect to open the bottle for us. I spoke to a manager and all he did was make excuses and contradict what our original waitress told us. Meanwhile you have staff standing around laughing and being so nosey about the situation. He offered a free dessert and at that point all I wanted was the check! So disrespectful!!! So rude!!!! DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!

Definitely not as good as we had hoped. This is a small hole in the wall restaurant, but often that can be some of the best food. Unfortunately not this time. Starting with the water. I almost always drank tap water as I am not very sensitive to different tastes and generally it is pretty good. Here. The tap water literally tasted like it had a hint of sewage smell and they did not have bottled water available. They need to add a filter to their water if they're not going to offer bottled water. The food portions were ridiculously small in most cases, such as the taco which was just a flat chip. 3 in around with some ground beef sprinkled on it. However, the burrito was quite large as an exception to their other portion sizes. Unfortunately the burrito was just fairly bland and not memorable in a good way. The staff was very nice, but I would definitely not go again.

We were so excited to try Amelia's kitchen after see all the accolades and vegetarian options. Unfortunately for us it did not deliver. The service was extremely slow, we could see they were severely understaffed in FOH, and assume the same in the BOH because food took forever. Once we got our food, it was disappointing, I tried a veggie quesobirria taco and rice and beans, it was not what I expected, was more like a quesadilla with bell peppers, no sauce, not crispy. The black beans were not ready so they rushed to bring them to me and they were not fully cooked and had no seasoning whatsoever. I switched to the refried beans that were much better. My husband got a burro with birria and 1/2 and 1/2 of each sauce - It had so much sour cream inside he couldn't eat it and had to pick around to find meat. Overall we won't be back, but I hope they sort out their service and execution issues for the next customer.

Tonight I ate at Amelia's for the second time. Both visits, it was a long wait to get a table and service was slow. I had no wait because I accepted a cramped seat at the bar. Otherwise it would have been a long wait for a table. Granted they're very busy, and they have a very small place, but they are understaffed. My first visit, the waitress apologized and gave me a dessert au gratis, to compensate for the slow service. Overall I really like the food there. They provide two small cups of very unique and tasty salsas, which I have never had anywhere else. They are on the spicy side but not terribly so. However, the black beans were so oversalted tonight I couldn't eat them. The rice was average. I ordered the pozole which was quite delicious. However I asked for the soup to be delivered first before the main course. This didn't happen, all the food arrived at the same time, same as the first time I visited. I also ordered a a variety of tacos. They were all quite tasty with the exception noted below. In the case of the chicken I ordered a grilled chicken taco and they delivered a habanero chicken taco. Breaded and fried, incredibly spicy, too much so for me personally. They offered to replace it. Instead I asked them to just take it off the bill which they did happily. The staff are cheerful and friendly and in general they have good service but everything is slow because they're understaffed. Overall, I recommend the place because the food is quite good. You just have to be careful what you order because some things are very spicy. And you have to deal with the erratic and slow service.
