I’m from the Chicago area originally so when I discovered there was a Portillo’s in Tempe I was ecstatic! The food is always spot on and of course my favorite meal is a dipped beef with fries and a chocolate cake shake!

This place was very average. We walked in while they opened and saw a bunch of employees still eating. The food was good and quick from the time we ordered to the time we ate so I'll say it's a 4 out of 5

I'm glad I tried it but it was not for me.
1) The menu, particularly the way they present the "famous five" is deceptive. The "famous five" is presented as a package price, and I mistakenly thought it was a special deal for buying the sandwich , French fries, and drink all together. Turns out it is not. The manager told me they are "suggestions." Given the confusion, I very much appreciate that he gave me a large side (instead of the small drink I paid for) on the house. However, I don't even like soda, so I left the cup behind when I departed.
2) I asked the host about joining the rewards club when I was ordering but this could not be done because I had to sign up separately from some QR code. Since he already ran the order and charged me, I gave up.
3) If you are looking for a greasey, spicy meal then Portillo's delivers. But for the confusion and hassle, plus the food was not that memorable, it was not worth it for me.

Grew up with Portillos in Elmhurst Il, although now franchised they have done a good job with maintaining the original food quality and taste - still a great beef!
The service in this location wasn’t Portillos quality or expectation. They perfected the ordering and delivery with the white bags at the counter and the drive through but now have gone to a POS with receipts, it’s not better or faster.
PS still the best chocolate cake you can buy.
