I've been coming here for years. I will usually use my payroll card/visa to buy things and on occasion money orders for bills. Not only did they tell me they wouldn't accept it, even though I explained the type of card it was but when I used the ATM to pull the money out, they asked me what the purpose of my money order was for to which I simply replied it was for bills. I just saw a similar review to mine.

We went for the gluten free cheesets that were on sale, and all out of stock by the second day.

Over the last ten years, Safeway’s transition under various corporate restructures has led to a perceptible decline in customer-centric value. What was once a premium shopping experience has been replaced by a model that prioritizes automated efficiency over the consumer's time and effort. The aggressive push toward self-checkout lanes represents a fundamental shift in the "retail contract." Uncompensated Labor: Customers are now expected to perform the roles of both cashier and bagger—tasks that were historically part of the value proposition of the store's pricing. Lack of Incentives: While many industries offer discounts for "DIY" services, grocery retail has maintained (or increased) price points while removing the human labor that justified those costs. This creates a sense of "paying more for doing more." Beyond the checkout line, the "downhill spiral" is often visible in: Reduced Floor Staffing: Finding assistance in aisles has become increasingly difficult as payroll is trimmed. Inconsistent Maintenance: From aging infrastructure to "out of stock" frequencies, the physical environment often fails to reflect the high prices at the register. When a brand asks the customer to take on the work of the employee without a corresponding decrease in price or an increase in convenience, it erodes the mutual respect necessary for long-term loyalty.
