Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn't help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we're still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.
I’m normally a five-star kind of girl. I don’t nitpick. I don’t rage-review. I don’t even usually leave one star.
But tonight? Y’all earned it.
I ordered my burger the way I always do: NO mustard. Just ketchup and mayo. The receipt clearly said, “NO mustard, add mayo, add ketchup.”
There was already confusion when I changed my order and was still charged for the original burger. I was told, “Oh, I already put that order in.” Instead of arguing, I paid for it and gave it away to a homeless man at the hot dog truck next door. (6000 W Buckeye Rd is a truckstop area; never visited this location, Google said it was closest to my location)
At the window, I was handed my sweet tea with tea running down the side of the cup. I politely asked for a napkin, and she apologized and wiped the outside of the cup off.
She handed me the first “already put that order in” burger in one bag, then walked back to get my actual meal, which came out in a completely separate bag. The whole interaction felt disjointed and oddly handled.
I got home and opened my burger.
It wasn’t missing mustard.
It was baptized in it. (See photos.)
No mayo. No ketchup. Just an overwhelming amount of the one thing I specifically asked to leave off.
If “NO mustard” on a printed ticket still results in a mustard-drenched burger, what exactly is the point of customizing an order?
Smiles and pleasantries at the window are cute. Accuracy is better.
I don’t expect perfection at What a Burger, but I do expect my order to resemble what I asked & paid for.
First and LAST time visiting this location. I’ll gladly drive farther — whether that’s the Bethany Home or Avondale location — before I ever return here. You might want to do the same.
The only place I enjoy mustard is on a Kendrick Lamar track, not soaking through my burger, bun, and even the paper.

I usually have no trouble when I order off the app, but this past visit I don't think they bothered to read the burger instructions.
