Title: Disgraceful Management - Greed Over Customer Service
Rating: ⭐☆☆☆☆
I am beyond frustrated with my experience at this Safeway. I completely understand that stores have policies and apps designed for savings. I don’t have a problem with technology or rewards programs in principle. However, I have a massive problem with how this location’s management treats loyal customers.
I was at the checkout with a bill well over $100. The cashier, who was actually trying to be helpful, was ready to assist me with a digital discount I couldn't access. Before they could help, a manager abruptly intervened and shut the entire interaction down. They didn't just enforce a policy; they were rude and dismissive, stating, "No, you can't do this. Download the app or pay the full price." and the product was removed from the cart. I placed the product back in the cart.
Because I didn't have the app active at that exact moment, I was forced to pay an extra $4 on a single item despite spending a fortune at their store. It’s not about the two dollars; it’s about the principle and the sheer greed displayed by the manager. To stand there and block a helpful employee from providing basic customer service over a couple of bucks on a $100+ tab is shameful.
It is clear that management at this 7th St and Bell Rd location cares more about forcing app downloads than they do about the actual human beings shopping in their aisles. Shame on the manager, who appeared to be riding on a high horse and enjoying the power. Pure lack of empathy and blatant greed. Her manager did offer a rebate. I explained if it were the $4.00 I was conserned with I wouldn't be shopping in one of the most expensive supermarkets in the area!
