Our server Belen M was fantastic. We really loved her attention to detail and knowledge. The food was great & reasonably priced for the quantity. The complimentary unlimited chips, salsa & refried bean dip is an added bonus.

This used to be the best Mexican food. Until they recently changed their dip in the last few months, which was me and my wife’s favorite part. It’s more watered down and not as tasteful anymore. The other location on Gilbert is much better and is the original bean dip I’ve been eating for 30 years.

I’ve been a loyal Serrano’s customer for years, and it honestly hurts to say how far things have slipped. Ever since the Chandler location closed and I’ve had to start going to Mesa, the experience has steadily gone downhill. First, the whole “two servings of chips, beans, and salsa only” rule with an extra charge after that? Seriously? That used to be part of what made dining there feel generous and welcoming—now it just feels nickel-and-dimed. Then today was the moment that really sealed it. My mom has always ordered from the kids menu because the regular portions are too much for her. Never been an issue—until suddenly it is, depending on which manager happens to be working? The inconsistency is frustrating and honestly just bad customer service. And now a fee for using a debit or credit card? That was the third strike. Even better, that fee came out of the server’s tip—which I’m sure she loved just as much as we did. It’s really disappointing to watch one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Valley—one I used to recommend all the time—turn into a place that feels more focused on extra charges and rules than on the customer experience.

Service and atmosphere of the restaurant was very good. Beer and margarita's were also very good. When I review and read others' opinions on food at restaurants I realize they are subjective, not objective so when I give reviews on food at restaurants I try to be as straight forward as I can. The chips were chips, the flavor of the salsa was nearly non existent. They also provided bean dip so we mixed the two together which give it a bit of flavor. We order fish tacos and this is the most disappointing aspect of the restaurant. Price was $13.99 and for this we received 2 soft tortillas with shredded cabbage and sweet onions. I honestly had 1/3 of mine eaten before I found the fish inside. I peeled back the rest of the tortilla and found a triangle piece of fish that looked exactly like Gorton’s Crispy Battered Fish. We will not return.

Why one star? They are placing a fee on the use of Debit cards which is illegal in AZ and violates the federal Durbin Amendment act which restricts debit card interchange fees and prohibits charging a premium for their use. On top of this they are charging 3.5% surcharge which also violations AZ law which is capped at 4% of the transaction amount or the actual cost of the processing fee which ever is lower. Visa/Mastercard has clear published guidelines on this and there processing fee is at 3%, so customers' are being overcharged 0.5% when using a visa/mastercard. On to the food, my wife ordered taco plate with flour tortilla and it was saggy and cold. I ordered the combination fajitas with corn tortilla. The protein was all over cook (shrimp were tough). They delivered flour instead of corn. After I notified them of the mistake, it took a long time to get the corn. So after waiting 5 mins I decided to just start eating. My other two guests said there plates were fine but nothing special. I do have to say, the rice and beans are good. There bean and salsa dip is good. The restaurant decor is great. Overview, expensive typical Mexican restaurant. But my main issue is the over charging of visa/mastercard credit card customers and illegally charging their debit card customers.
