From the moment you walk into El Agave, youâre greeted with a space thatâs not only beautiful, but inviting and full of energy.
We usually grab a seat at the bar, and Rachel, Stephanie, and Juliette are truly the heart of the experience. They are attentive, welcoming, and make you feel like a regular, even if itâs your first visit.
The chips and salsa hit the table almost instantly (which honestly sets the tone), the drinks are always perfectly made, and the food? Consistently incredible. Every single time.
But what really stands out is the service,
itâs seamless, genuine, and above and beyond.
We find ourselves here at least twice a week, and that alone should say everything. If youâre looking for a go-to spot with amazing food, drinks, and people, this is it

I can't believe I have not reviewed this place. This was my first solo trip, but my 3rd time dining at this establishment.
**For Note: It's prom season**
I walked over here from the bookstore. El Agave is nestled on a corner within the congested cove of Midtown Village. Park and walk...park-and-walk. I sat in the courtyard for a bit before continuing on to the restaurant. There were a ton of patrons hanging on the outside; my guess is there was a wait. Lucky for this lone patron...I was able to go to the bar with no wait! The staff was hustling!
The bar was staffed with three females and they rocked. I nonchalantly watched them operate via constant communication. No double-downing on drink orders! I will note that 2 of the bar staff were too short to reach certain products/materials, so they called on Juliet to do the reaching đ; she was no giant herself.
My food and drink were delicious! Sorry...I forgot to take pictures. Next time...I promise. There will be a next time because they have the best guacamole, and if you've been keeping up...I've been on the hunt for a good guacamole. Found it!
If you are at the bar when Rachel (on the left in the picture I took) and Juliet (on the right) are on the wait staff, YOU are in good hands đ!
We went to try this place out. Absolutely Wonderful!! I'm hooked! The food was so delicious, along with the good vibes, good music, and great service! Let me say, Maria is amazing and made our visit even more enjoyable with her welcoming attitude and warm personality, real down to earth and friendly. She really made us feel welcomed. My daughter and I, along with her friends, we enjoyed EVERYTHING! Definitely my new favorite place.

Place is really pretty inside but we waited ten minutes for our waitress to even take our drink order. Food came out very quickly and was not the best. Similar to los tarascos in authenticity and flavor. Drinks also were also very flavorless. We were in a rush and although we had our waitress had brought our ticket, we were told we had to sit and wait at the table to pay. That they were not allowed to do it at the front and only our waitress could. Several minutes later she finally reappeared. The hanging garden above the bar is really gorgeous and cottage like but the over all spacing was horrible. The bathroom was so tight, someone could not enter if another was washing their hands. The booths were very far apart and not suitable for children of any size. Has potential but needs a professional to help.

This was one of the worst experiences Iâve had at El Agave in Tuscaloosa. I ordered tacos and could barely even eat them. I took one bite of a taco and it was just nasty. The meat wasnât even shredded properly it was chunky and poorly prepared and the tortilla itself tasted bad too. Overall, the food quality was extremely disappointing.
There were three tacos, and after I explained I didnât eat them, he only took off half the price for one taco, which makes no sense. On top of that, I was charged extra for cilantro and onions that I did not touch at all they never even moved from the exact spot the waiter placed them. When I asked if those charges could be removed since they werenât used, they refused.
The biggest issue here is the management. The manager was rude, uncooperative, and completely unwilling to listen. This is not my first bad experience with him either. He acts like whatever he says goes, no matter how unfair it is to the customer. Itâs honestly ridiculous to expect someone to pay for food they didnât eat.
Even worse, you can tell the staff is scared of him. When I asked a server about removing the cilantro and onion charges, she said she didnât want to get yelled at. That says a lot about how he treats his employees, and itâs not okay.
The only good thing about this place is the servers they are always kind and do their best. But the management completely ruins the experience. This place has potential, but until there is new management, I would not recommend it.
