  We had a big order, but forgot a Burger for our pups. We added it at the window and the employee was so patient, handled it quickly, and was sweet to our puppies. She was so sweet, even though it was after midnight.

  Ah… McDonald’s. The golden arches — a symbol known far and wide, like a flag planted in the soil of modern civilization. You see it from the road, glowing like a promise… a quick meal, a full belly, no questions asked. And I’ll admit, there’s a certain efficiency to it. You walk in hungry, and before you’ve even had time to think about your life choices, you’re handed a bag of food, hot and ready. It’s fast, it’s cheap, and it does the job. In a harsh world, that counts for something. But there’s a hollowness to it all. The food fills your stomach, sure… but it don’t quite reach the soul. It’s made the same everywhere, served the same everywhere — like the world’s been flattened into one long, endless road with no surprises left along the way. Still… sometimes a man don’t need meaning. Sometimes he just needs a burger and a moment’s peace. Three stars. Reliable, but it ain’t living — it’s just getting by. — Dutch van der Linde
