On Thursday, April 2, we visited this McDonald’s located on Banff Avenue. We placed our order using the self-service kiosks but decided to pay in cash, so we handed our ticket to the person working at the register.
Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The employee who assisted us showed a very negative and unprofessional attitude throughout the interaction. This behavior was not only directed toward us but also toward an elderly customer who had been waiting a long time for their food.
In addition, we had to wait approximately 25 minutes to receive our order, which is quite unusual for a fast-food restaurant, especially in such a highly touristic location.
It was a sad and unfortunate experience, as we never expected to receive this kind of service in a place that welcomes visitors from all over the world. We hope customer service can improve so that other guests do not have a similar experience.

Disappointing cleanliness and service at Banff McDonald’s
I am a loyal fan of McDonald’s and generally love your burgers, but our recent visit to the Banff location was honestly shocking. We came here as tourists to relax with friends, but instead of enjoying our meal, we felt like we were sitting in a mess.
The restaurant was filthy. The tables were incredibly greasy and sticky. There were food scraps — fries, pieces of cookies, and other debris — scattered all over the floor and on the tables. We were willing to wipe the table ourselves, but there were no supplies (wipes or sprays) available for customers to use.
The service process was even more frustrating. It took four different employees to finally get someone to help:
1. We approached a girl sorting trash; she said she was busy and told us to find someone else.
2. A staff member at the counter told us there was "staff in the lobby" (who was the person busy with trash).
3. Another person at the counter said, "We’ll call someone now."
4. Finally, a fourth person came, but very slowly, constantly fumbling with and changing gloves.
Even then, the employee didn't seem to understand that the table was sticky.
She just swiped the crumbs away (which I could have done with a napkin). I literally had to show her that the surface was too sticky to even put my hands on. We felt guilty for "distracting" the staff, even though we are paying customers.
I want to remind the management about the global QSC&V (Quality, Service, Cleanliness, and Value) standards. According to your own Lobby Travel protocols, the staff must wipe tables and clean the floor every 15–30 minutes, especially in high-traffic locations like Banff. There were about 10 empty tables, so the excuse of being "too busy" doesn't hold up. Other families were also asking for basic cleaning.
Please fix the management of the dining area. It is a world-renowned brand, and people shouldn't have to eat surrounded by leftovers and garbage. I hope you take this feedback seriously and bring the restaurant back to the standards we expect from McDonald’s.

I’ve been to many McDonald’s locations, but this one is by far the slowest.
The wait times here are honestly unacceptable. I’ve had to wait up to 25 minutes just to get a single burger, which is crazy for fast food. This completely defeats the purpose of coming to McDonald’s in the first place.
It doesn’t seem like a one-time issue either — it happens consistently. The staff might be trying their best, but the overall service speed needs serious improvement.
Definitely the longest wait I’ve ever experienced at any McDonald’s.

Absolute worst McDonald’s experience of my life
Just left the Banff McDonald’s and I’m still shaking with anger. This has to be one of the most unprofessional, rude, and incompetent locations I’ve ever encountered.
I stood at the counter, clearly and slowly repeated my order multiple times — simple number combos, nothing complicated. The Asian woman, working in evening shift, (Honestly, I’m not being racist here) flat-out refused to listen. She kept cutting me off, rolling her eyes, and then had the audacity to argue with me and insist I was the one who was wrong. When I calmly tried to clarify again, she raised her voice, blamed me for “speaking too fast” (I wasn’t), and acted like I was personally attacking her. Zero customer service, zero professionalism — just pure attitude and defensiveness.
Meanwhile the line behind me was growing and everyone could hear the whole embarrassing argument she started.
This isn’t just bad service — it’s hostile service. I’ve eaten at McDonald’s in dozens of locations and never experienced such open disrespect from staff. Management clearly doesn’t train or supervise this crew at all.
Avoid this location at all costs, especially in the evenings. There are plenty of other places to eat in Banff — literally anywhere else is better than subjecting yourself to this kind of treatment.
1 star is generous. Should be zero.
