Heber Branch
I have been a customer of Zions Bank since 2011. Recently, I discovered that if your account goes negative more than twice within a six-month period, the bank will place extended holds on incoming deposits — including verified payroll checks — for up to 10–11 days.
These are legitimate employer payroll checks with years of deposit history that previously cleared within 24–48 hours. Under this new policy, my deposit has now been held for 9 days with no ability to release the hold, despite the funds being verifiable and not an outgoing item.
This policy creates significant hardship. Holding payroll funds for over a week increases the likelihood of additional overdraft fees and unnecessary financial strain.
To make matters worse, it is nearly impossible to reach a local branch directly. Calls route to a centralized call center where representatives are unable to assist with hold releases. I was told there was “nothing they could do,” even though I conduct over $130,000 in annual business through this bank.
After more than a decade as a customer, this experience is extremely disappointing. I will be closing my account due to the deposit hold practices and lack of accessible customer service.

This branch just lost Zion’s bank a loyal 17-year customer. I have been going to this branch since long before they opened their new building.
Back in the day I had great customer service experiences here. It was run by happy people who genuinely wanted to help.
They are now clearly interested in giving the big-national-bank style experience. The last 5-10 times I came in I was met with complacency and long lines. The place felt overworked and understaffed. This isn’t that uncommon now, so I tolerated it as I gradually shifted my finances to higher quality institutions.
I still kept a checking account around, however, as a backup. But my last interaction with them via email was so incredibly cold, impersonal, and wildly unhelpful, that it made me take a long hard look at the institution and take my business elsewhere. The person I was trying to talk to had left for the day by 12:30PM! They reached out to me and I got right back to them! Someone else jumped in to respond with a hilariously bureaucratic response that entirely failed to mask how little they gave a crap. Night and day compared to the service I get from other banks.
If you live in Heber City, you had better believe you have many better options. So long Zion’s Bank! Sacrifice quality for money and you lose customers, funny how that works…
