  I opened a car loan with PNC Bank because they had great interest rates on car loans. I was having trouble setting up my auto draft for monthly payments so I called the Calhoun street branch and spoke with Kayln who went above and beyond to help me set up my auto draft. She spent over 20 minutes helping me step by step and when I went to the branch to make my first payment, she came out of the branch to flag me down so I wouldn’t miss the parking garage. Wow! Talk about customer service! The branch manager Bonnie Barrett came out to the lobby to say hello and welcomed me for coming by. This is the kind of personalized service I love from a local bank. Charleston take note. This is the kind of bank you need for your financial needs. Job well done!

  Extremely poor bank and branch. I started with PNC 30 plus years ago in Ohio and PA, but am seriously considering switching banks. You have to go down town in person to do any serious banking. They refuse to open a full service branch in the Summerville area. Very inconvenient. The downtown branch does not answer their phone. Extremely frustrating and the downtown branch does not allow remote options.

  Went to this PNC Bank location on 11/17/23 to cash a check from a client that was written on a PNC Bank checking account. The check had already bounced once when submitted through my bank. The PNC Bank CSR rep at the front door stated that in order to cash the check I would have to pay a 2% fee because I don't have a PNC account. I appealed to a Manager who stated the same thing and said this is a common business practice for banks in Charleston. I agreed to pay the fee and was directed to the teller, LeAnn, and subsequently presented the check and two forms of government issued ID. LeAnn checked the PNC account and stated that the check maker (her words) hadn't "uploaded the check for payment" when it was originally written on 10/10/23 so she couldn't cash it. I asked if the check had a bank routing number, checking account number and check number and LeAnn stated it did; she then restated that the check maker hadn't "uploaded the check for payment". I stated this made no sense. I then asked if the PNC account had sufficient funds to make the payment. LeAnn stated that it is PNC Bank policy to not reveal if there are sufficient funds. I then stated that that i am presenting a valid check with all required data embossed on it and presenting two forms of ID, yet PNC Bank is withholding payment because the check maker has essentially failed to do some type of internal authentication for payment. LeAnn stated I would have to get another check from the check maker. I stated this, too, makes no sense since the check maker could once again fail to do whatever magic that needs to happen behind the scenes to make the check authorized for payment by PNC Bank. I left without being able to cash the check. In summary, I don't recommend banking with PNC Bank due to their convoluted business practices. To prevent a recurrence, we will simply no longer accept any check written on a PNC Bank account.
