I’m writing regarding an experience my sister had yesterday at the SECU branch while trying to open an account.
Per information I received from Daniel, when u visited the bank he checked with the manager and then asked my sister to return to the bank. When she went back, she was told,by Ms Phillips “You you should do things right.” I agree that following proper procedures matters, and we want to do everything correctly.
However, I’m concerned about how her identification was evaluated. She presented a valid passport issued by another country. The staff determined it was not valid proof of identity. A passport is an international document and is legally accepted as proof of identity for account opening under federal guidelines. Dismissing it created confusion and frustration for her.
SECU has always been known for member service. I just wish you and the rest of the staff would show more empathy with customers and potential investors, especially when someone is trying to do the right thing and follow the process. A little patience and explanation goes a long .
Thank you for your time and attention to this.
Tip: SECU follows NCUA + Patriot Act rules, and a valid unexpired foreign passport + proof of address is acceptable ID. If they need a secondary document, they should explain that instead of saying the passport “isn’t valid.”

I thought the objective of an update was to improve something , nor make it useless. The background was a dark color instead of the bright white that hurts you eyes

The SECU has very competent employees. They are always ready to assist as a teller, finance consultant, and loan representative in person or on the telephone. SECU is one of the best places to do business.

1 of the younger tellers when i do inside or thru the drive thru it doesn’t matter she’s always sooooo nice and helpful but it’s a older lady has to be between her 30’s - 50 always has her face frowned up and will hand her something in her hand and she will slide or throw your things back on the counter . I wanted to just stop banking with them all together because of this because that lady is so nasty and rude
