It is unfortunate that I must leave this review directly to this branch. They are great. But without a choice to leave this for corporate directly, this is what I must do. NC SECU advertises that it is “People Helping People” and says it is “here every step of the way.” Unfortunately, my experience with the Collections Department has been the complete opposite. I have been fighting for Social Security Disability benefits for over 2½ years. Despite having no income, I managed to keep my mortgage current from April 2024 through January 2026 by cashing out my retirement savings. When I had those funds, I asked if I could pay my mortgage further in advance, but I was told I could only pay up to three months ahead. Because of that policy, I had to use the rest of my money for other living expenses instead of paying down my mortgage. Before I became delinquent, I proactively contacted SECU and was placed into a forbearance from February through August 2026. Later, my Social Security disability attorney told me that a letter from my mortgage lender showing I was approaching foreclosure could qualify my disability claim for priority processing. On June 29, I spent over an hour on the phone with a collections representative named Shelly. She genuinely tried to help and told me to obtain a copy of my April 14 MAP documents from a branch. She read a paragraph to me that contained language stating that once my forbearance ended, my loan could proceed toward foreclosure if I couldn’t bring it current. I went to a branch, obtained the documents, and that language was nowhere to be found. When I called back, there were no notes documenting my previous conversation. Eventually, another employee tracked down Shelly, who reportedly said she had never read any foreclosure language to me. Later, a supervisor (Sarah) told me Shelly “must have been reading from another member’s account.” That explanation was deeply concerning. If that’s true, how was another member’s information being accessed during my call after I had to verify my specific identification? Throughout the rest of my interactions, I repeatedly heard the exact same scripted response that they could not provide the letter my attorney requested. I even asked if they had any written documentation explaining SECU’s foreclosure process that could be sent instead. I was told no. When I asked to speak with a supervisor’s supervisor, I was initially told I could only be transferred to a customer review department. Eventually I spoke with another manager (Micheal), but rather than trying to understand my situation, I felt dismissed. The conversation left me with the impression that my efforts to save my home were simply “my problem.” I wasn’t asking SECU to forgive my loan or change my mortgage terms. I was asking for documentation that could potentially help my disability case move forward so I could begin receiving income and continue paying my mortgage. It’s disappointing that a financial institution whose website emphasizes helping members and being there every step of the way was unwilling to provide any documentation or meaningful assistance in a situation where I was trying to do everything possible to keep my home.

I have been banking with SECU for many many years now and visited numerous branches. Never have I ever had a bad visit. The ppl that work for them are always helpful, friendly and smiling. All I know is it must be as great a place to work as it is to bank. Thank yall for great service and great banking!!!
