- JGJohn GamradtAug 12, 20261.0Very disappointed with my experience at SECU. As a state employee, I expected at least some level of relationship banking. Instead, the experience was mostly lukewarm counter service, no meaningful outreach, no conversations about available services, and very little effort to understand how the bank could actually help me. I eventually moved my business banking to another local institution simply because they offered better communication, stronger connectivity, and actual relationship-based service. The final straw was an overdue credit advance that could have been resolved with a simple internal transfer and a clear conversation. Instead, SECU made one phone call that I missed, sent no email, provided no meaningful warning, and then reported it on day 31 — resulting in roughly a 100-point hit to my credit. That felt less like “member service” and more like a stopwatch. For an institution built around serving state employees and local communities, I expected a little more communication and a little more grace. I’m glad I moved my business elsewhere. At this point, I’d recommend SECU for basic, plain-vanilla banking only. If you want proactive communication, business support, or a bank that actually gets to know you, I’d look elsewhere. milquetoast banking, accomplished.
