The welcome/Information desk female staff that we dealt with today (Saturday, October 5, 2024 around 11:35 AM) was not a kind/welcoming person/receptionist. I believe that she did not like me challenging her when she gave two wrong pieces of information to a lady who wanted to do shared banking. This lady did say that she was in trouble if she could not do the shared banking today. The receptionist told the lady that shared banking closed down at 11:00 AM today, Saturday. I interjected saying to the lady that she could go to this other credit union that did shared banking. This receptionist proceeded to state that all banks close at noon today and that shared banking closed down at 11:00 for all credit unions. “All of them” she reiterated. At that point, because I knew that our credit union closed later, I decided to Google it right in front of her. It happens that our credit union closes at 3:00 PM on Saturdays. I informed the lady about it and let her know about how close the branch was. Lo and behold, another customer from afar in the branch, interjected to let the lady know that there was such credit union branch nearby, "down the road" she yells (loved it!). Of course, by the time we, my husband and I, got to the receptionist, we were doomed. We could feel the awkwardness. She was rude, very definitive, and was not willing to work with us just like she did the lady before us. She asked my husband, who presented his driver’s license and military ID, if he knew his social security number to which he replied yes but he felt insulted. She should have asked if he had his social security number with him versus if he knew it, making us feel as though he was stupid. Social security numbers are a way of life. You have to know your numbers in order to navigate your adult life. She also said that, because the branch was closing soon and our request was time-consuming, all she could do was open the business account then we would have to come back another time for the rest. I said we could not come back because my husband cannot make it after work and that today was a better day, for which she did not budge. I don't understand why she would not keep working with us to complete the task. We have had situations in other credit unions/banks where the branches are closed but because we were already in, the staff still worked with us until the end. In any case, it was obvious to us that she was not going to extend herself based on her being challenged by me. I had that feeling anyway, the moment I tried to be helpful to the lady. What happened to the old days when, if you made it before closing time, it meant that you made it in and you were going to be serviced? She left a bad taste in our mouth. PS. By the way, when I left that Central One branch, I went straight to my credit union to fact check the Central One receptionist who stated with such confidence that shared banking was not available at all for anyone anywhere after 11:00 AM today. When I inquired about it at my CU, the teller did say that shared banking was available. I also asked if there was a cut-off time, which there was none. Go figure!

This branch is excellent. Great tellers and friendly. After my horrible experiences with the Shrewsbury branch and their staff I decided to travel to the Northborough branch. It is well worth the extra 10 minute ride to be treated nicely. The Shrewsbury branch should take lessons from these people in how to treat their customers. Keep up the good work.
