This bank gave my a horrible experience! I am a German scientist who came to Tucson for a position as Professor at the university. I tried to set up my bank account at NB/AZ. First of all, I had to apply for a secured credit card (this is normal as a foreigner in the US, since there is no credit score yet). For that I had to transfer 2000$ to a savings account from my European bank account. Then they declined my secured credit card application. Because of my J-1 Visa which allegedly doesn't allow for credit cards. This is a lie, since many other J-1 scientist were able to get credit cards at other banks.
Now here it comes: After I was declined the credit card, I wanted my 2000$ back. BTW they took in a 25$ transfer fee for that already. And then they declined to transfer my own 2000$ back to my European account!! They don't even allow for international transfers via their web interface. And even for domestic wires you need an extra permission. So they have basically stolen 2000$ from me + transfer fees.
I am now in Germany and want my money back. But I am not able to access my money!! This is basically a scam!
So if you are an international scientist who came to the US by invitation through a government institution (like a J-1 Visa for Professors) do NOT go to this bank! Not only will they NOT provide you with the advertised service, but on top of that they will take in your European money and make it extremely difficult to get it back. You will only have problems. Their management is either intellectually underprivileged or criminal. Don't expect any service at this branch.
Best regards,
Prof. Dr. P. Thome
