This bank might cost my nonprofit a $5,000 grant. The only requirement for this grant was to have a bank account by the end of the month, and when I came to CUTX I expected that I would open the necessary account there. After a brief meeting with someone at this branch I realized I was missing 2 documents that I was told I could email in. After emailing them, I waited over a week and didn’t receive a response so I gave a follow up email to which I also didn’t receive a response. Confused, I called and sat on hold for over 30 minutes before being forcefully deferred to a chat room. After exchanging a few words with the representative in the chat room, their only solution was emailing this branch. I got an email back immediately. I was told that the account could be opened by the end of the day, which I correctly doubted. 4 days later the account still was not opened. I went to another bank where I received good service and I have to wait 2-3 business days before my account is opened, but there are only 3 business days before the end of the month due to holidays which is leaving me stressed and unsure. This branch incorrectly promised me that my account would be opened within 2-3 business days which was a blatant lie: I waited almost 14.

Two weeks ago, I contacted Credit Union of Texas regarding an out-of-state, individual-to-individual vehicle purchase. I spoke with an employee named Ryan Melton and confirmed multiple times that CUTX could handle this type of transaction. Because I had previously financed two vehicles through CUTX with good experiences, I trusted the information he provided. I explained to Ryan that I was leaving the country soon and needed the process completed as quickly as possible. He assured me everything could be handled. After that, communication became extremely poor. I repeatedly had to call him for updates, and each time he said he would call back, but he never did. It was later confirmed that CUTX does not support out-of-state individual-to-individual purchases. Despite that, Ryan continued to tell me everything was fine. His own manager informed him on November 13th that the loan could not be done, yet when I spoke to Ryan the next day, he claimed everything was approved and that he was just finishing paperwork. He promised to call me back, but again never followed through and then took the day off. When I called CUTX today, I was told the application had been declined and that Ryan had known for days but failed to inform me. The manager confirmed this directly. I have had positive experiences with CUTX in the past, but this situation involved being misled, having my time wasted, and receiving extremely poor communication and customer service during a time-sensitive process. Because of this, I will not be doing business with CUTX again.
