- JSJustin SontagFeb 18, 20263.0I had an extremely disappointing and upsetting experience at Credit Union of Texas - S Hampton Road. My partner and I waited 45 minutes to have a standard document notarized. When the employee finally reviewed it, she said it was “too legal” and that they wouldn’t notarize anything that could “get them into trouble.” She then confirmed that the real reason was because the document involved sexual harassment and discrimination claims. In other words, they refused service based on the subject matter of a victim seeking legal protection. Notaries are supposed to verify identity and signatures — not judge whether someone’s legal situation is “acceptable.” This felt unprofessional, inappropriate, and deeply insensitive to someone already dealing with a difficult and painful situation. EDIT: Upon leaving reviews, the manager, Shawn, called my partner within the hour with his personal number and offered to make it right. We came back the next day and they were able to help. This act of humanity demonstrates the value of a small bank; however, we only regret that our request had been an issue in the first place.
