  I hired Ladd & Carter Tax Service to prepare my income tax return, expecting professional and accurate work. Instead, I received a version full of basic mistakes — including a lazy decision to take the standard deduction instead of itemizing, which would have cost me over $1000 if I hadn’t caught it myself. When I pointed out the errors, the owner’s response wasn’t to correct them or to take fault, but to suggest I “have another firm prepare my return" because my return was "not a simple return". That was the one piece of advice they got right. If my tax return was "simple", I would have completed it myself. If you value accuracy, accountability, and attention to detail, I’d recommend taking that advice up front and finding a different tax preparer. I had my tax return completed by TurboTax expert assist instead. I received a much more thorough preparation process, it was completed in hours, and it costs less!

  I’m a disappointed new customer. My preparer was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. They have reasonable fees; however, I just filed my city taxes, and mistakes on that alone have given me pause: 1. The form provided to me for city taxes was for the incorrect city. 2. I was told I owed $116 to the incorrect city - which she highlighted with yellow marker - but the amount on that line was how much I paid. The amount owed line was actually $0. 3. I was then provided forms for the correct city, which were revised today by the city tax office, where a net loss of $1,379 was eliminated. So I went from being told I owe $116 to $611, then another $31 on top of that. It’s not the end of the world, but I now feel the need to scrutinize my state and federal taxes. Edited to add: The city tax summary provided by the preparer is correct. Unfortunately, in the office, she printed the wrong city filing and verbally provided the incorrect number and form

  Bruce (Carter) was nice and very helpful while providing me information (free of charge) over the phone. I dropped my taxes off to him and got a call the very next day to come pick them up. Now that's good all-around service! I highly recommend his tax firm.
