  I am writing to express dissatisfaction with my experience at the Kercheval Flagstar location. I have never previously banked with Flagstar Bank. I received a promotional flyer via mail and decided to open an account. The flyer offered a $500 bonus when opening an Elite checking account and establishing a minimum balance of $1,000. I called the bank to discuss the flyer. Nova was wonderful. She answered all my questions. I set up an appointment and opened the account. During this encounter, I had the flyer in hand. She walked me through the steps. We read the flyer items one by one, ensuring I met each requirement. During this meeting, I was offered and took advantage of a premium CD rate, which was a perk listed on the flyer for Elite checking account members. Fast forward months later. I appreciated the call informing me that the CD had matured, I was offered the option to transfer the monies into my personal account, which I did while I considered opening another CD. In November, I called to inquire as to why I did not receive my promotional money. The young man I spoke with stated he could not understand why I had not received it either. He escalated the issue to management. I then received a call from a manager who explained that I would not receive the money. He stated I had not met all the requirements. I explained that according to the flyer requirements, I did. I further shared that a Flagstar Bank employee walked me through the process when I initially opened the account. I asked Joseph how it was possible that I did not meet the requirements when it was the Flagstar staff who assisted with opening the account. I received no explanation that justified the bank's decision. It left me wondering how I could receive the premium CD rate if I indeed was not meeting the requirements of the flyer. Flagstar Bank not only generated money on my deposits via financial intermediation but also profited via net interest margin (NIM). I held up my end of the agreement. Flagstar Bank failed to honor theirs. It is extremely disappointing, not to mention a bad business practice. I had considered opening another CD with Flagstar. After this experience, I have decided to close my accounts with Flagstar and transfer my money to another financial institution. I have always been a loyal credit union member and never established a relationship with traditional banks. This experience solidifies my decision to continue partnering with only credit unions. Moving forward, I will definitely share my experience with family and friends and urge them to reconsider a relationship with Flagstar Bank. Shame on you, Flagstar.

  The staff at this branch are the nicest and most helpful people I’ve ever banked with. I normally don’t look at a bank as being local, and normally would bank at any branch. But Matt M is one of the nicest people to bank with. He goes above and beyond and is highly recommend this branch to anyone looking to be tested as a customer, and not a number.
