- CHcharles hetrickFeb 16, 20262.0There’s really no other option for families in the county so the YMCA has a captive audience but all of their facilities are lacking in one way or another. The only location I’ve not been to is silverdale. Specifically do not bother trying to call any one of the locations. They never pick up their phones. Which leads me to the next issue. I only know they don’t pick up their phones because they also have a hard time keeping their aquatics centers operational. Which is why I am trying to call with any regularity to ensure I should bother leaving the house. Specifically today (16 February 2026) the sumner location and the Puyallup location water features were down and the gig harbor location wasn’t, as usual, picking up the phone. By contrast I randomly phoned the Boise Treasure Valley location and was immediately talking to a person at the front desk, and yes their pool was working. One big thing they could do is maintenance in the evenings, 50% of the closures are for cleaning or similar. I’d recommend other gyms but few have pools and those that do don’t accommodate kids. The real irony is I live in Tacoma and the pearl st YMCAs new pool is a joke, and their bonkers life guards yelled at me for splashing my kids.
