About

Church
*Please visit the temple website for open hours and appointments.* Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are considered houses of God, a place of holiness and peace separate from the preoccupations of the world. They provide a place where Church members make formal promises and commitments to God. They are also the place where the highest sacraments of the faith occur — the marriage of couples and the "sealing" of families for eternity. Temples serve as the only place where ceremonies such as baptism and eternal marriage can be performed on behalf of those who have died. Temples point Latter-day Saints to Jesus Christ and their eventual life with Him.

If you have not already visited the Salt Lake Temple, I would 10/5 recommend it! Temple Square is a peaceful place in the middle of a busy city. I have been to visit a few times in my life and every time I go I have met friendly people who are very welcoming and kind. The interior of the Salt Lake Temple is currently closed due to renovation work, but much of the surrounding grounds have been reopened to the public, offering great views of this historic building. For Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this temple is considered The House of the Lord (just like the Old Testament Temple in Jerusalem.) Latter-day Saints worship Jesus Christ in temples around the world and strive to follow Christ's example of love and compassion for all of the human family. Come find peace and a quiet place to meditate here at Temple Square! Enjoy the bright flowers, and marvel at the beautiful majesty of this temple that American Pioneers spent 40 years building.

Now, as a non-member, I didn’t get the full “behind-the-scenes tour” (VIP access apparently requires more paperwork than my last mortgage), but honestly, the mystery adds to the intrigue. Very exclusive. Very “you can’t sit with us, but we hope you have a blessed day.

Still doing my best to find a home where I feel God wants me to to dwell and glorify his name. May the holy Spirit help guide you and keep you safe. I felt this church didn't need words to convince me to attend service their actions did.

This temple seemed like not a monument to God, but rather one to human ego. The square is a group of ornate buildings surrounded by gardens and fences, full of people asking us to come to their church. At closing time, we were taking our kids to get a drink at the fountain just a few feet away, and the people refused, said we had to leave, and locked the gates. Then we went to the 7-11, where a person who seemed to be struggling with mental health asked for water, and the cashier gave it to them, for free. The temple had lots of pictures and statues of Jesus. But his spirit and kindness were at the 7-11.
