I chose Mt. Olivet as the memorial for my loved one 13 years ago because of its beauty and how well cared for the cemetery was. I come back several times a year to place flowers, and have noticed a significant decline in how well cared for things are now.
I was there just this past weekend and the grass is patchy and overgrown. There are Prairie Dog holes everywhere and some of them are pretty big with mounds of dirt dug up.
Not sure what has changed but it isn’t a pretty cemetery anymore and it’s disappointing.

Do not like that it has gates that close let alone a closing time. Only cemetery I’ve ever seen not allow access 24/7. Definitely seems like they’re hiding something especially because of the field at the end of it that’s practically empty but for some reason says no trespassing. Not okay.

Incredibly beautiful cemetery, and it’s actually my favorite one in all of SLC. They just close waaaaay too early! Last couple times I came by a man in a truck pulls up and tells us that he’s closing the gates the minute I arrive. 8 PM would be a much better time, especially since I prefer to visit when the sun isn’t so high in the sky.

I always go here when I need to think and find peace, my family is resting at the SLC cemetery up the road and it is not as well maintained. I would often visit with my young children and have a picnic in the peace and quite , My beloved Honey Bee my soul dog would come after every visit from the University Veternay to watch the squirls from the window and eat her donut . It's nice to have a quite, peaceful place to visit with so much history.

I love a good review, I wish I could give a shining review here, but I cannot today. Mt. Olivet Cemetery is a very old place, full of crypts, outdoor mausoleums, beautiful headstones, multiple levels of grave sites, and has a good deal of wildlife within its boundaries.
Unfortunately, there has been quite a visual decline in the cemetery as well. It's recent appearance reminded me of a haunted graveyard instead of a hallowed graveyard. There are many trees that are broken, dead, or quickly approaching death. I don't know if there's a disease of the trees, or if it has stemmed from bad weather, but they need to be removed with new trees planted in their stead. The grass appears to be more sparce, with lots of weeds creeping amongst the gravesites. I realize no weed repellents can be used because it would harm the wildlife, mostly the herd of deer. We saw five deer grazing between some graves. I gotta say, the deer did not look well fed, kinda thin. Is their diet strictly foraging on the plant life in the cemetery? Does the staff working there provide any green hay and vitamin pellets for the deer herd?
My grandmother is in-urned in this cemetery, I will continue to pay my respects to her and her family there . I hope to see it rejuvenating in the years to come instead of declining even more. Thank you for allowing me to post this review. 🪦
