Counseling and Psychological Services are provided by full time clinical faculty (licensed doctoral level clinicians) as well as doctoral students in training. All clinical faculty are involved in a variety of direct service activities. We provide counseling services, teach Student Development Classes, provide outreach trainings, and participate in the clinical training of doctoral students by supervising externs, practicum students, and part-time student hires from Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology programs.

I have had a long “mental health journey,” shall we say. Throughout, I have had many therapists, all well-meaning, not all effective. A few years after having graduated from BYU and finally in a place where I no longer require therapy and medication, I can now look back and confidently say that my experience with the therapists at CAPS were detrimental to my mental health and sent me spiraling much sooner than I would have otherwise. They utterly failed to identify my actual problem(s), and in doing so handed me fun new ways to flagellate myself rather than any sort of help.
Their services are free and convenient. I say it’s overpriced. 0/5 stars.
Edit: to be completely fair, I have heard a wide variety of experiences from people who have used CAPS, ranging from life-saving to more what I got. I think it ultimately comes down to which of the various therapists/counselors randomly gets assigned to an inpatient or whoever happens to be available…which, frankly, is still not a chance you should be forced to make with your mental health.
