Covenant Funeral Services, in Stafford, was so accommodating to our wishes when our Mother passed.
Amber worked with St.Francis and Quantico National Memorial Cemetery to coordinate the Mass and then internment. They also held viewing and helped with the creation of a memorial video of Mom’s life and our family.
This was our third time, sadly, that we have had Covenant coordinate services. Always, professional and caring to our family.

Outstanding customer service. Covenant's professional and compassionate staff helped my wife and I navigate successfully through the funeral pre-planning process so that when the time comes, our survivors will have a plan in place that the both of us developed in advance so that they will not have to make funeral related decisions at an emotional and stressful time. We have recommended Covenant to our family and friends.

A friend recommended this funeral home to us, and it was one of the best decisions we could have made. During such a hard time, they handled everything with compassion, clarity, and care. Communication was excellent throughout the entire process, and they made everything feel as seamless as possible. We felt supported every step of the way.

My husband and I have been talking about making funeral prearrangements for years. I attended a seminar Charles presented at Virginia Heritage Community. He highlighted the fact that the cost just keeps going up and I know how stressful it can be to have to make those types of decisions when the time comes. It was time to get it all taken care of. Charles was wonderful to work with, he explained everything to our satisfaction and we never felt like he was trying to up-sell us anything we did not want. We can now relax knowing our children will not have to face all of those decisions nor have to come up with the funds to pay for it.
Frequently Asked Questions About Covenant Funeral Service - Fredericksburg
Why have a public viewing?
Viewing is a part of many cultural and ethnic traditions. Many grief specialists believe that viewing aids the grief process by helping the bereaved recognize the reality of death. Viewing is encouraged for children, as long as the process is explained and the activity is voluntary.
What is the purpose of embalming?
Embalming sanitizes and preserves the body. Embalming makes it possible to lengthen the time between death and the final disposition, allowing family members time to arrange and participate in the type of service most comforting to them.
Does a dead body have to be embalmed, according to law?
The Federal Trade Commission says, "Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial."
Why are funerals so expensive?
When compared to other major life events like births and weddings, funerals are not expensive. A wedding costs at least three times as much; but because it is a happy event, wedding costs are rarely criticized. A funeral home is a 24-hour, labor-intensive business, with extensive facilities (viewing rooms, chapels, limousines, hearses, etc.), these expenses must be factored into the cost of a funeral.
Additionally, the cost of a funeral includes not only merchandise, like caskets, but the services of a funeral director in making arrangements; filing appropriate forms; dealing with doctors, ministers, florists, newspapers and others; and seeing to all the necessary details.
Do I have to make different funeral arrangements if I choose cremation?
It really depends entirely on how you wish to commemorate a life. One of the advantages of cremation is that it provides you with increased flexibility when you make your funeral and cemetery arrangements. You might, for example, choose to have a funeral service before the cremation; a memorial service at the time of cremation or after the cremation with the urn present; or a committal service at the final disposition of cremated remains. Funeral or memorial services can be held in a place of worship, a funeral home or in a crematory chapel.
What can be done with the cremated remains?
With cremation, your options are numerous. The cremains can be interred in a cemetery plot, i.e., earth burial, retained by a family member, usually in an urn, scattered on private property, or at a place that was significant to the deceased. (It would always be advisable to check for local regulations regarding scattering in a public place-your funeral director can help you with this.)
Today, there are many different types of memorial options from which to choose. Memorialization is a time-honored tradition that has been practiced for centuries. A memorial serves as a tribute to a life lived and provides a focal point for remembrance, as well as a record for future generations. The type of memorial you choose is a personal decision.
Why is having a public viewing important?
Viewing helps many people in the grieving process by letting them recognize the reality of death. It is also encouraged for children if explained and voluntary.
What is the purpose of embalming at Covenant Funeral Service?
Embalming sanitizes and preserves the body, allowing more time between death and final disposition to arrange comforting services.
Is embalming legally required?
Except in special cases, embalming is not required by law, but may be necessary for services with viewing. You can choose arrangements like direct cremation that don't require embalming.
Why do funerals at Covenant Funeral Service cost what they do?
Funerals include costs for 24-hour staff, facilities, transportation, merchandise like caskets, and services such as arranging, paperwork, and coordination with various parties.
Do I need to arrange differently if I choose cremation?
Cremation offers flexibility. You can have a funeral or memorial service before, during, or after cremation, at a place of worship, funeral home, or crematory chapel.
What options exist for the cremated remains?
Cremains can be buried in a cemetery, kept in an urn, scattered on private or significant property (with local regulations checked), and memorials can be chosen personally.
