The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Christian restorationist denomination restored by Joseph Smith in 1830 and is currently headquartered in Salt Lake City. The rapidly growing worldwide religion has about 17 million members and is governed by a hierarchical structure. The hierarchical structure of the church is led by the President (Dallin H. Oaks), two counselors, and the quorum of 12 Apostles. The 15 leaders are considered prophets, seers, and revelators in the latter days.
The Church is widely known for its global missionary work (where men and women serve between 18 and 24 months proclaiming the gospel), the humanitarian aid and welfare programs, their conservative doctrinal and political positions, and their educational programs and institutions.
As part of educational efforts, church members hold distinctive scriptural references, starting with the King James Version of the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.
I testify that if you read these books with an open mind, with real intent you will know, as I do, they are true.
