My family and I travel frequently and often attend different wards while away from home. Unfortunately, our experience at this ward was one of the most distracting and unusual we’ve ever had.
During sacrament meeting, the chapel was extremely noisy. My husband commented that it sounded more like a lunchroom than a place of worship. We were trying to listen to the speakers and focus on the sacrament, but the constant noise made it difficult to concentrate.
What was especially frustrating was the behavior of some children around us. A child sitting behind us repeatedly kicked and bumped my husband’s arm throughout the meeting. At the same time, a child sitting on the bench in front of us repeatedly kicked me over and over again. The child’s mother was clearly aware of what was happening and did nothing to stop it. By the end of the meeting, I actually had bruises on my legs from being kicked so many times. The child that was also hitting the back of my husbands arm. Was also kicking the back of the bench over and over again.
The sacrament itself added to the unusual experience. The bread was served in very large crumbled chunks rather than the small pieces we are accustomed to seeing, and the water cups appeared to be less than half full, with only what seemed like a drip to spare.
Overall, the atmosphere felt more like a playground than a worship service. We understand that children can be restless and that every ward is different, but the complete lack of reverence and supervision was surprising. The entire experience was so unusual that, after leaving, my husband and I looked at each other and wondered, “Where did we just go?” and “What exactly did we just witness?”
While some aspects of the experience were almost comical in hindsight, it was disappointing to be unable to participate in the service without constant distractions. We hope this feedback is taken constructively and encourages greater attention to creating a reverent environment where members and visitors can worship without disruption.
We visited Sunday June 21st. Moab 5th ward.
We visited at 9am on Sunday June 21st. I believe the Moab 5th ward.

Very warm and welcoming place. During holidays there are a lot of people attending. We loved the messages and the people were very kind. We felt closer to here today.

Friendly congregation, and even gave me a gift for Father's Day even though I was just visiting.
I feel the Lords Spirit here.
