I moved to Grand Living Riverstone about ten months as an independent living resident. Before I moved in, I toured most of the independent/assisted living facilities in Sugar Living. I decided to move to Grand Living because it clearly had more to offer than the other places. It is a beautiful facility with very friendly staff and residents. Recently I wanted to give a birthday party to a fellow resident in the Grand Lounge. The staff volunteered their time to make flyers, serve cake and drinks at the party. One staff member even led the residents in singing Happy Birthday. For me, I choose to live at Grand Living at Riverstone because of the friendly residents and staff members willing to help to support us.

I have worked with clients at Grand Living through MedXFit Houston for several years. It is by far one of the best facilities I have visited. The location is great, service superb, and staff caring and effective.

Grand Living Riverstone was great when it originally opened. My father in law was one of the original residents. We moved my father in law into independent living. However as his dementia progressed it was necessary to move him to the memory care unit. The director was Andrea and main nurse was Suzie. They did a fantastic job of working with residents with dementia. Andrea made sure her CNAs were well trained and she lead by example. At that point we were very pleased with the care my father in law was receiving. Unfortunately, they both left the facility. The staff that replaced them is not anyone you would want to care for your loved one. They are not trained in how to care for residents with advanced dementia. From the director to the CNAs. The final straw for us was on May 6th when my husband received a call in evening stating he was urgently needed at the facility to help with his father because he refused to get into the ambulance. Over the phone, he asked 5 times "what is going on?" "why has an ambulance been called?". The medical director Samara Nurse literally refused to tell him. My husband has power of attorney over his father, including medical power of attorney but they refused to tell him or ask permission to kick his father out. Upon arriving and seeing the distress his father was in due to GL trying to force him to go with people he doesn't know, he agreed to take his father to the ER at Oakbend in Richmond, still not being informed why it had to be at Oakbend in Richmond. Shortly after arriving at the ER, a Fort Bend county sheriff's deputy entered the room and handed my husband a court order stating that his father was being committed to the geriatric psych ward at Oakbend. My husband could do nothing to stop it. Nor was he given any explanation. He was not even allowed to go to the unit with his father, who at this point was exhausted and very, very confused and scared. It was midnight by then. No 84 year old man with advanced dementia should ever be put in that position. My father in law was held for 16 days. At that time the doctors at Oakbend reported to his court appointed attorney that my father in law had been a "model patient". They never experienced one single issue with him. Gratefully, he was handover to my husband's care. During those 16 days of his confinement we were able to find another facility for him to reside. To date we have not received an explanation, phone call, email or letter explaining the events of that or the cause of getting a court order. At this point we would never recommend leaving your loved one in the care of this memory care unit. No elderly person or family should be subjected to the experience we had. It was traumatic and heartbreaking for all of us.
