My husband and I got to work with everyone on staff and they are all amazing. Erika & Carley were our midwives when I gave birth and we also met with Jordan. Mary at the front desk is the sweetest. Overall a great experience with excellent prenatal and postnatal care.

I had two hospital births before deciding to try a birth center. My hospital experience was traumatic the first time and frustrating the second, and my husband and I were tired of dealing with the hospital drama. I met with the midwife Jordan and toured Stone Oak Birth Center in 2024. I loved the calm atmosphere, but what really convinced me was how much time she took to answer my questions and listen to my concerns. After becoming their patient, my experience was exceptional. They did not dismiss me or rush me through my visits. I felt free to make decisions about my care and birth. Erika delivered my baby in 2025 and my fourth in 2026, with Carley assisting. She was calm throughout the entire birth and directed me well. I was confident that she would "call it" if we needed to move to the hospital at any point. I highly recommend Stone Oak Birth Center for first time moms and experienced moms. Mary at the front desk is sweet and always helpful. I bring my littles to my visits and they have a nice play area in the waiting rooms to keep them occupied. Everyone there is wonderful.

I can’t say enough great things about this place and the people who work here. I’ve have had two babies with the birth center and my birth experience exceeded all expectations I had. They are knowledgeable and have deep compassion for mama and baby. If you are considering a natural birth and searching for midwives, this is definitely the place!!

I highly recommend Birth Center Stone Oak! I love all of the staff at this clinic. It’s a very personal experience. Everyone knows your name, they understand your unique situation, and appointment are never rushed. I was a bit sad after my last appointment because I won’t see the staff routinely until my next baby!
I had late onset preeclampsia, so I ended up with a hospital birth late in pregnancy. Erika went with me to check into the hospital, stayed through triage, and made sure I was comfortable in my L&D room. She stayed in constant communication with me and my husband, and she came back to check on me and my baby the morning after my c-section.
At my follow up appointments, we came up with a plan for my next pregnancy. It’s very clear that all of the midwives care about their patients!
I will absolutely be a patient at Birth Center Stone Oak for my next pregnancy. Even if I end up at a hospital again due to preeclampsia, the midwives at the birth center will be my primary prenatal care!

Stone Oak birth center was an absolute godsend for us. Having had a C-section with my first child I wanted a natural childbirth so much more! My husband and I both work in healthcare and he was VERY unsure about the birth center route.
They made a believer out of him! A handful of prenatal visits in and we both felt incredibly comfortable and confident that we were in good hands and could have the natural and safe birth we wanted! The long visits allowed for questions, education, advice- and allowed us to really get to know our team.
When we found out our baby was breech it threw us through a loop- and I was so afraid I’d end up with another c section but the team guided us to the right preparation and I’m thrilled to say we had a successful breech Vbac!
The day of the birth I was SO nervous until I walked through the door and immediately felt relief when I saw Erika! I had a fast birth and I attribute it to how extremely comfortable I was with her and how much I trusted the skills of her and all the midwives!
Our baby girl is 4 months old now and I still miss everyone at the center! We’re forever grateful for them and if baby #3 should happen - we don’t care where we are in the country (we travel and RV full time for work) we would come back to San Antonio just for the Stone Oak Birthing center! Thank you to everyone- Erika, Jordan, Carley and can’t forget Mary! ❤️

How do you compare to other options for my maternity care?
We are proud to be among the longest-standing established facilities among birth centers in San Antonio, TX. Since opening our doors in 2012, we have specialized in offering a truly parent-centered experience. Unlike standard clinical settings, our approach blends both holistic and allopathic care to achieve safe, beautiful outcomes for families. We offer a comprehensive, all-inclusive service package, which means your prenatal care, childbirth education, labor, delivery, and postpartum follow-up are all integrated seamlessly. Our deep commitment to relationship-focused care ensures you feel fully supported, confident, and informed at every step of your pregnancy journey.
Who will be providing my medical care and delivering my baby?
Your care will be provided by our highly skilled team of Licensed Midwives (LM) and Certified Professional Midwives (CPM). Our midwives bring extensive training and hands-on experience to deliver personalized care throughout your entire pregnancy. One of the unique benefits of choosing our facility over other birth centers in San Antonio, TX is that families have the ability to choose their own birth teams. We take the time to build a strong connection with you through regular, unhurried appointments, allowing us to deeply understand your specific preferences and medical needs long before your baby's delivery day arrives.
What kind of educational classes do you provide for expecting parents?
Education is a cornerstone of our philosophy. We believe that informed parents are empowered parents. Our comprehensive educational programs are designed to thoroughly prepare you for both natural childbirth and early parenting using practical skills and reliable information. We cover essential topics, including natural labor techniques, pain management, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery. If you are exploring different birth centers in San Antonio, TX, you will find our educational offerings to be highly robust. These sessions are included as part of the care package for our clients. Community members are also welcome to join our childbirth classes for $200. Additionally, we provide specialized infant CPR and choking training, ensuring you are fully prepared for any emergencies.
Are waterbirth available at your facility?
Yes, we specialize in offering beautiful and peaceful waterbirth experiences. Many families seeking birth centers in San Antonio, TX specifically look for facilities that can safely accommodate water immersion during labor and delivery. Warm water provides significant natural pain relief, helps to relax the body, and promotes a gentler transition for the baby as they enter the world. Our birthing suites are fully equipped with dedicated birthing tubs, and our midwives are experts in assisting with natural waterbirth. We will closely monitor both you and your baby throughout the entire process to ensure the highest level of safety while respecting your desire for a serene and natural delivery environment.
How do prenatal and postpartum appointments work with your midwives?
We focus heavily on continuity of care. Prenatal visits are structured to give you ample time to ask questions, discuss your physical changes, and plan for your labor. We also offer the convenience of telehealth virtual visits when suitable, which many busy families appreciate. After your baby is born, our postpartum care is just as attentive. We provide comprehensive postpartum follow-up to check on your physical healing and emotional well-being. We also offer exceptional lactation support, complete with specialist referrals if you need additional help with breastfeeding. When researching birth centers in San Antonio, TX, you will appreciate our holistic focus on the entire transition into parenthood, not just the delivery itself.
What happens if there is a medical complication during my labor?
Your and your baby's safety are our top priorities. While we focus on natural, unmedicated birth, our midwives are rigorously trained to handle emergencies and to recognize when a situation requires a transfer to a hospital setting. We blend traditional midwifery wisdom with modern healthcare protocols. If a complication arises that falls outside the scope of normal, low-risk midwifery care, we seamlessly initiate a transfer to a local medical facility to receive appropriate allopathic interventions. Because we operate as one of the most established birth centers in San Antonio, TX, we have clear transfer protocols in place to ensure you and your baby receive the exact care required for a safe outcome.
Can I bring my family members or a doula to my birth?
Absolutely. We believe the environment where you bring your child into the world should be filled with people who make you feel comfortable and secure. Whether you want only your partner present or you wish to include parents, siblings, or a professional doula, we welcome your chosen support system. We encourage you to discuss your ideal environment during your prenatal visits so we can document it in your plan. Our team will work harmoniously with your doula or family to maintain a calm and uplifting atmosphere. This collaborative effort ensures that your personal preferences are honored while we focus on the clinical aspects of your safe delivery.
How do I begin the process of becoming a client at your facility?
The first step is simple: reach out to schedule a consultation and tour of our beautiful facility. You can request a call back through our website or call us directly. During your initial visit, you will have the opportunity to view comfortable birthing suites, meet some of our licensed and certified professional midwives, and ask any preliminary questions you might have about our service packages. We will discuss your medical history, your vision for your delivery, and explain how our relationship-focused model works. We look forward to partnering with you during this life milestone and helping you achieve the beautiful, parent-centered experience you deserve.
What topics are covered in your childbirth classes?
Our childbirth classes cover the complete birthing journey including labor physiology, comfort measures, pain management techniques, partner support strategies, informed decision making using the B.R.A.I.N.S method, birth center protocols, and preparation for potential hospital transfers. We also discuss active birthing positions, creating birth plans, and what to expect during each stage of labor.
When are childbirth classes held and how long do they last?
Our childbirth classes are held once monthly, specifically on the second Saturday of each month from 10am to 4pm. Each class is a comprehensive six-hour session that provides in-depth education on all aspects of labor, birth, and immediate postpartum care. This intensive format allows us to cover all essential information in a single day.
How long is the Infant CPR and Choking Class at BCSO?
Our Infant CPR and Choking Class typically runs for 2-3 hours, allowing sufficient time for both instruction and hands-on practice. We ensure all participants have ample opportunity to practice techniques on infant mannequins and receive personalized feedback from our instructors.
Do I need to bring anything to the Infant CPR and Choking Class?
You don't need to bring any special equipment to the class. We provide all necessary training materials, including infant mannequins for practice. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows for movement during the hands-on portions of the class. You may want to bring a notepad for taking notes, though we also provide handouts summarizing key information.
When should I take an Infant CPR and Choking Class during pregnancy?
We recommend taking the Infant CPR and Choking Class during your second or early third trimester, when you're still comfortable but close enough to your due date to retain the information. Many families find that between 28-34 weeks is ideal. Will I have the freedom to select the individuals present during my labor?
Will I have the freedom to select the individuals present during my labor?

At BCSO, we typically schedule prenatal appointments every 4 weeks until 28 weeks of pregnancy, then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, and weekly thereafter until birth. However, we customize this schedule based on your individual needs and health status. Our appointments are longer than conventional visits, allowing time for thorough assessments, education, and addressing all your questions and concerns.
What happens during a typical prenatal visit at your birth center?
Our prenatal visits include comprehensive health monitoring (blood pressure, weight, fetal heart tones, fundal height measurements) and discussions about your physical and emotional well-being. We review nutrition, discuss pregnancy progression, address concerns, and provide education about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum preparation. You'll meet with the same midwives throughout your care, building relationships with the team who will attend your birth. Each appointment typically lasts 30-60 minutes, ensuring unhurried, personalized attention.
Does BCSO offer prenatal testing and ultrasounds?
Yes, we offer standard prenatal laboratory testing and can arrange for ultrasounds when indicated. We discuss all testing options, their benefits and limitations, and respect your choices about which tests you prefer.
