I went with a friend on a weekday because we wanted a low key history stop near downtown. There was no wait, and the staff at the visitor center did a good job explaining where to start and what was included. The docent was easy to follow and shared enough background about the French connection to the Republic of Texas without making it feel like a lecture. The house is nicely restored, and I actually liked seeing the kitchen area just as much as the main building. The grounds were peaceful, with a nice view back toward downtown, so it was worth taking a little time to walk around. It is not a huge museum, we were done in about half an hour to 45 minutes, but it still felt worthwhile for the price. Parking was simple enough nearby, and the site felt easy to get around. The cafe and gift shop were a nice bonus, and the restrooms were clean. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful, which made the visit smoother. If you enjoy Texas history or old house museums, this is a good, simple stop to add while you are in Austin.
