My aunt passed away on July 9, 2026, and I want to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Merry Heart for their excellent care…we always felt at home…a deep gratitude to all the staff who were with us until the very end 🙏🏼

As a registered nurse and a friend of a veteran who has spent more than a month in the hospital recovering from a serious staph infection and vertebral osteomyelitis, I was deeply disappointed by how Merry Heart handled his admission. The Department of Veterans Affairs spent nearly a week attempting to coordinate his transfer, only to be informed that Merry Heart would not accept him because of the VA’s reimbursement rates. After days of waiting, he is now forced to begin the placement process all over again with another rehabilitation facility much farther from home. As a nurse, I understand that healthcare facilities must consider financial and operational realities. However, timely access to appropriate post-acute care is an important part of a patient’s recovery. It is discouraging to see a veteran who has already endured a lengthy hospitalization face additional delays and barriers to care. I hope Merry Heart reevaluates its approach to VA referrals so that future veterans can receive the continuity of care they deserve

As a friend of a veteran who has been hospitalized for more than 30 days battling a serious staph infection and vertebral osteomyelitis, I was extremely disappointed by how Merry Heart handled his case. The Department of Veterans Affairs spent nearly a week trying to coordinate his admission, only to be told that Merry Heart would not accept him because of the VA’s reimbursement rates. After days of waiting and delays, he now has to start the entire process over with another facility much farther from home. Every facility has the right to make its own business decisions, but it’s disappointing to see a veteran recovering from a serious illness face unnecessary delays and added hardship because of financial considerations. I hope Merry Heart reconsiders its policy so future veterans don’t have to go through the same experience.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Merry Heart in Roxbury, NJ. As a US veteran that has been in the hospital for over 30 days and was medically discharged over a week ago, but not allowed to leave until they coordinate inpatient rehab rehabilitation, my care team and VA coordinator spent nearly a full week attempting to arrange my admission to this facility. After repeated delays and extensive back and forth communication, we were informed that Merry Heart would not accept me because they were unwilling to work with the Department of Veterans Affairs due to the VA’s reimbursement rates. It is deeply disappointing that a facility located just minutes from my home would choose not to accept a veteran based on financial considerations. As a result, I now have to start from the beginning to coordinate care with another facility more than 40 minutes away while recovering from a serious medical condition. While every private facility has the right to make its own business decisions, prospective patients especially veterans and their families should be aware that Merry Heart may not accept VA funded patients because of reimbursement policies. It is unfortunate that financial reimbursement appears to have outweighed the opportunity to care for a veteran in need. I sincerely hope Merry Heart reconsiders this policy in the future so that other veterans are not have to travel much farther from home and their support systems to receive the care they deserve. I know they are a five star facility and have great reviews. That’s why I wanted to be taken care of there. I am hoping that they see this review and have a change of heart since it’s literally in the name of their facility but they do not like the reimbursement rate that they will get for the expensive antibiotics they kept saying the antibiotics are expensive. The antibiotics are expensive and then decided no longer to work with the VA. If someone from this facility sees this review and decides to change their mind, I would be greatly appreciative because I would love to stay there, but unfortunately, they have declined me because I do not have private insurance and they will only get reimbursed for the cost of the medicine, not the profit on top. If someone from the facility does happen to see this and change their mind, please feel free to contact me or the VA directly. I would greatly appreciate it and then gladly change the review but until then it still feels like they are putting profits over people.

My Mother's care here was terrible. There was 1 person that was attentive, the rest forget about it. She fell twice, they released her too soon, and then she wound up back in the hospital where she died. I would not recommend this place.
