I recently joined the Long Island City YMCA, and overall I've had a positive experience. The facility offers a good variety of equipment, an indoor pool, fitness classes, and programs for all ages, making it a great option for individuals and families.
What stood out to me the most was the welcoming atmosphere. Most of the staff are friendly, helpful, and create a community-oriented environment that makes working out feel comfortable rather than intimidating. The swimming programs and group classes also seem to be very popular, and it's easy to see why so many members enjoy them.
That said, there are definitely areas that could be improved. During busy hours the gym can become crowded, making it difficult to access certain equipment or find space in the pool. Some parts of the facility, especially the locker rooms and bathrooms, could use more frequent cleaning and maintenance, and a few pieces of equipment appear to need repairs. Better supervision in the fitness area during peak times would also improve the overall experience.
Overall, I think the Long Island City YMCA is a solid neighborhood gym that offers good value because of its wide range of programs and friendly community. While it's not perfect and there is room for improvement, it's still a good place to stay active, swim, and work toward your fitness goals.

I filled out the paperwork for financial aid because I'm disabled and on a fixed income and the answer was to charge me more than the normal rate for somebody just walking in that's listed on the website. Thanks Fahim Noor for nothing. Thank God for the free teen membership at planet fitness. Who would pay an entire year membership at once for a teen at a location where the air conditioning doesn't work according to their reviews.

I would give this place a lower star if I could. I started going there at first because I wanted to learn how to swim and set up private swimming lessons with one of the swim coaches because I wasn't entirely comfortable at first doing swim lessons in a group. We agreed that my weekly swim lessons would be held between 11 am- 12 pm during registration. The first lesson went fine. In the second lesson the coach told me that he had an unexpected situation and the class had to be moved to 10-11 am. When I arrived this man acted subtly condescending towards me, but I let it slide. Alright, fine, things happen, its probably a one time thing right? No. The week after the man pushed my appointment to 9-10 am instead. Because of my personal circumstances, I couldn't be there this early on a regular basis, so I asked him multiple times if we can set up a different time instead, and he answered with a complete lack of flexibility. Bear in mind that we SPECIFICALLY agreed during registration that our class time was 11-12 pm for ALL of our sessions. Guess what his unexpected situation was: He was teaching other students at our prearranged time. After that, this man kept giving excuses for his lack of flexibility (He's on vacation, summer camp, etc). Finally, right before our last class, he ghosted me. Literally ate up the money I paid. Overall, I had a very poor experience here, one that felt more like a scam than anything else, considering the exprbitant amount of money I had to pay for not only for a membership but also each of the classes. Especially since the swimming facilities like the showers and locker room seemed poorly maintained. If you value your money and time, go somewhere else, I assure you, this YMCA is a scam. They don't actually care about motivating you to stay active, they just want to take your money and throw you scraps. I won't be naming anyone directly but, the coach I had this poor experience with was Mr. R and I hope this establishment will hire some better staff. He does NOT respect you or your time.

Gym is good, but there's a manager named Warren who was extremely rude, barging into the locker room and yelling at us because it was 5 minutes after 10. We didn't understand what he was yelling about at first since we were in the shower, then he came in again and yelled at our face. A lot of the people who go here are also rude to others and will walk around fully naked in the locker rooms.
Everything is great. Good environment
