My mother Sandy recent moved into the Arbors of Islandia and was having a rough transition from her life in Florida to a new setting in Long Island. There were challenging moments but the people of Islandia have been especially gracious and patient, listening to my mother and making her as comfortable and welcome as possible. Susan Short, Director of Community Relations was especially helpful speaking to my mom and myself and reassuring her about the amazing care, experiences and amenities the Arbors of Islandia has to offer. I was extremely pleased with her down to Earth style and the personal connections she drew with my mother - all to make her feel more at home. She was wonderful.

How I miss the kind people at The Arbors West in Islandia. My mom became a resident in May of 2023, and her social worker at that time was Stephanie Russell. She was absolutely wonderful with my mother (as was the other staff members). Denise in activities grew to love my mom as did Bernadette in Wellness. I know that Stephanie and Bernadette moved up in rank while my mom was there, but my mom had a special bond with these three in particular (she also loved Ty in Wellness)! Unfortunately, my mom passed in June of 2025, but I will never forget the care and attention given to my mother who had osteoporosis, scoliosis and macular degeneration. Even after Stephanie moved up, she always said hello and was so kind to her. I had the great pleasure of speaking to these three ladies (as well as a few ladies at the front desk), after my mother passed (special shout out to Charlene who hugged me after I lost her and was so caring). It’s coming up on a year since my mother went to heaven, but as long as I’m alive, I will always remember how lovingly they all treated my mom as well as myself. In fact, I can’t even pass Exit 57, without a bittersweet pang in my gut remembering all the positive interactions with the staff. Happy early Mother’s Day, to some of my favorite people, and I hope all is well, Ty! ❤️

Frequently Asked Questions About The Arbors Assisted Living Communities at Islandia East

Is an assisted living community the same thing as a nursing home?

No. People who live in a nursing home typically require constant and continual medical care, often involving a registered nurse and other medical professionals. In an assisted living community, seniors may need help with some daily routines such as grooming and getting dressed, but they are not medically dependent. In fact, assisted living residents enjoy an active lifestyle that can be highly fulfilling and enriching. According to Definitive Healthcare, there are more than 33,000 active assisted living facilities across the United States.

What does all-inclusive mean?

We understand that navigating assisted living can be difficult, and the fees associated with it can be confusing because it usually depends on the amount of care or assistance your loved one needs. This is why we decided to simplify it for you and make all care included in our monthly rate. If your loved one’s needs increase, your rate will not increase because of additional care needs. This all-inclusive plan makes it easier to plan ahead and concentrate on enjoying your time together.
