  Our mother was at Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta until her passing at age 91. I can't say enough about the staff that took care of our mother and treated her like family. It's very hard when a parent can't live alone safely anymore. We wanted our mother in a clean, safe and caring place which is why we chose Home of the Good Shepherd. While a resident, Mom was able to live in her own room with furniture we brought from her home. The staff keep the folks busy with activities, entertainment and social events. Having our mom here gave us all peace of mind.

  My father was extremely well cared for in The Home of the Good Shepherd’s Memory Care Unit. After caring for my father at home for many years as his Alzheimer’s disease progressed, we made the difficult decision to have him cared for in a different setting. We chose The Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta after visiting many memory care units in the Capital Region. Our decision was based on many factors, including their caring staff, an up-to-date and appropriate setting for people dealing with memory issues, and the types of activities available. He seemed very happy there and when the time of his passing came, we were blessed to have the care of hospice nurses to augment the care of the Good Shepherd staff. My mother often says, she wishes we made the decision to make the transition sooner.

  Kim was and still is extremely kind and helpful. We so appreciate her handling of admittance and any ongoing issues. John and I recently filled out the survey. John does not participate in any activities through no fault of Good Shepherd. John is a bit of a loner. Please know that Kim and the rest of the staff are very good to John. I’m happy to clarify the kindness that was extended to John.

  Due to unforeseen circumstances over the last few months, my family decided that my parents were in need of more assistance on a daily basis. This was a difficult and emotional decision, but in the end, we are 100% certain that we made the right one. Kim, and the rest of the staff at The Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta, made this transition not only comfortable and seamless for my parents, but for the rest of my family as well. Kim laid out all of the information in a manner that was easy to understand, went over all of the services and supports that were available, and was very patient with all of our questions. She responds to emails in a very timely manner, and offered all of this information in a calm voice with no pressure at all. On the day my parents moved in, we were all a bit nervous. For 50 years they had lived on their own and this was a huge change for them. The staff greeted them by name, escorted them to lunch, offered various social opportunities, and reviewed their medication management. Kim came to the room after they were settled in and asked if there was anything they needed or if there were any other questions they had. Now a couple of months later, my parents have had a great experience. They have been involved socially, are well taken care of, and are safe. As my family travels down this new path of taking care of my parents well-being, we are blessed to have them in the care of Kim and the rest of the wonderful staff at the Home of the Good Shepherd.   When they have had 3 administrators in the past 6 months and most the the patients ended up getting covoid 19 and many passed away from it shows the care and compassion they have for your loved ones in this place.
