Out of no where we received notice that my uncle was going to be passing soon and that we needed to find hospice care and prepare for his departure. I was in shock, then a feeling of overwhelm came over me. After finding an amazing hospice location, I became a little less overwhelmed. The Hospice Home @HP provided a list of funeral/cremation options. That was extremely helpful but caused a sense of anxiety as I needed to research because we wanted quality over price. Although Cumby wasnt initial called as I hadn't made it through the list yet. That night (the night before my uncle had passed), a family friend had introduced us to Stephen Grace of Cumby Funeral Services as we were looking for a space to host a Celebration of Life Tribute (NOT A Somebersome FUNERAL), she connected us right then and there. I got a quote and was able to research everything when I got to the hotel. I received a call early the next morning saying my uncle had just passed. Our family friend Sherry, contacted Stephen for me and i confirmed that we were entrusting him with my Uncle. Thank goodness I researched and made the choice to go with Stephen Grace at Cumby.
Stephen has been a total godsend. He was helpful, upbeat, inspiring, paid attention to details provided amazing suggestions and took so much off my plate. Stephen and his team had eliminated my stress as a huge of part of the tasks were done when I returned home to MD. He kept me in the loop the entire way. He made sure the Tribute Center was beautifully decorated, catering had early access, music selection, photo tribute, presentation slide, print work, and coordination of the honor guard.
Stephen Grace and teammates did an outstanding job. 10 out of 10, I definitely recommend

Oh my goodness, what an amazing company and organization. Having to prepare from out of state is a challenge 8n it self. But Mr. Stephen Grace simply AMAZING!!! What would we have done without him. I'm sure it would have been well but the kind, patient, suggestive professional and so much more he/they provided was simply amazing ππ½. Thank you from the family in Maryland.

My experience with Cumby Funeral Service was absolutely wonderfully given to my husband on his passing, and to me. They, and especially Ian Wall, gave me gentle, heartfelt, care and support. I am deeply grateful for their respectful and outstanding help that made a hard and sad process easy to bear. It was with much trust that I felt with Ian and Cumby that I was able to feel less burdened and at peace with their excellent and flawless delivery at each stage of the process. They were a true blessing I will forever keep in my heart.
Thank you.

Ian and the entire team were incredibly kind, compassionate, attentive, and supportive throughout the entire process. They treated my mother with dignity and respect and made sure every detail of her funeral was handled with care. Ian went above and beyond to guide and support us, and his genuine compassion brought us great comfort during such a heartbreaking time.
I am deeply grateful to Cumby Family Funeral Homes and Ian Wall for helping me honor my mother so beautifully. I would wholeheartedly recommend them to any family navigating the loss of a loved one.

Bring the following information to complete the State vital statistic requirements:
β Birthplace
β Father's Name
β Mother's Name
β Social Security Number
β Veteran's Discharge or Claim Number
β Education
β Marital Status
Contact your clergy. Decide on time and place of funeral or memorial service. This can be done at the funeral home.
The funeral home will assist you in determining the number of copies of the death certificates you will be needing and can order them for you.
Make a list of immediate family, close friends and employer or business colleagues. Notify each by phone.
Decide on appropriate memorial to which gifts may be made (church, hospice, library, charity or school).
Gather obituary information you want to include such as age, place of birth, cause of death, occupation, college degrees, memberships held, military service , outstanding work, list of survivors in immediate family. Include time and place of services. The funeral home will normally write article and submit to newspapers (newspaper will accept picture and they will be returned intact).
Arrange for members of family or close friends to take turns answering door or phone, keeping careful record of calls. If Social Security checks are automatic deposit, notify the bank of the death.
When I call, will someone come right away?
If you request immediate assistance, yes. If the family wishes to spend a short time with the deceased to say good-bye, thatβs perfectly acceptable. Your funeral director will come when your time is right.
Should I choose Burial or Cremation?
Burial in a casket is the most common method of disposing of remains in the United States, although entombment also occurs. Cremation is increasingly selected because it can be less expensive and allows for the memorial service to be held at a more convenient time in the future when relatives and friends can come together.
A funeral service followed by cremation need not be any different from a funeral service followed by a burial. Usually, cremated remains are placed in urn before being committed to a final resting place. The urn may be buried, placed in an indoor or outdoor mausoleum or columbarium, or interred in a special urn garden that many cemeteries provide for cremated remains. The remains may also be scattered, according to state law.
What is the purpose of embalming?
Embalming sanitizes and preserves the body. Embalming makes it possible to lengthen the time between death and the final disposition, allowing family members time to arrange and participate in the type of service most comforting to them.
Does a dead body have to be embalmed, according to law?
The Federal Trade Commission says, "Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial."
