I wanted to share our experience so other families can make an informed decision. Overall, everything started out well. The food was good, and the therapy staff was wonderful. Unfortunately, our experience with many of the day and night nurses was extremely disappointing. Several nurses were disrespectful and dismissive when patients asked for help. My father is wheelchair-bound and unable to walk. He would often only be changed if someone specifically asked the staff to do it. No one routinely checked on him, and when he would end up soaking through his Depends, some staff members would become irritated and treat him disrespectfully for the remainder of their shift. On one occasion, my mother had to leave for an appointment and asked if someone could take my father to the dining area to make sure he ate, since he is unable to get there independently. The nurse responded that it was "too early for that," slammed the door, and walked away. My father had a stroke that affected his left side and cannot open his left hand. This information is clearly documented in his chart. Despite this, a nurse repeatedly yelled at him to open his hand. When he explained that he physically could not because of his stroke, she became angry and walked out of the room. Staff members were also often rough when moving patients. It became very clear that if you upset certain nurses or simply asked for assistance, the rest of your stay could become very uncomfortable. Because of this, my mother felt she had to be there every morning by 9 a.m. and stay until after my father was in bed to ensure he was changed, fed, and treated appropriately. The most heartbreaking part is that there were times my father did miss meals when my mother wasn't there to advocate for him and make sure he was taken to eat. As a fully wheelchair-bound patient, he depended on the staff for these basic needs. No patient should have to rely on a family member being present all day just to ensure they are fed, changed, and treated with dignity. It's disappointing because this facility promotes itself as one of the best in the St. Louis area. While the therapy department deserves recognition and the food was enjoyable, the attitude, lack of compassion, and disrespect shown by some of the nursing staff overshadowed the positives. Families considering this facility for a loved one who is fully dependent should be aware that they may need to advocate constantly to ensure their loved one receives the care and basic human decency they deserve. On top of that administration states that they will reach out about the concerns after we have brought it to their attention multiple times, but they don’t we have had to have certain nurses banned from his room because they have treated him so awful.

I was told by the administration office to call back to check on space availability. The problem is the administrator won't give you the dignity of returning your calls. I've been calling since September 2025.

What attracted me the most to Friendship Village was that it offers a life-care plan. There are services ranging from independent living to assisted living to memory care to skilled nursing and rehab. I’m assured good care at any stage of health. This relieves not only my worries but also those of my children. They will never have to worry about “what to do with Mom.”

My wife and I have been residents for over three years. It is the best move we could have chosen.
