I debated even leaving a review, but a few people have encouraged me to share my experience so others can at least be warned.
My husband and I went to Karen for preventative marriage counseling and hoped to get better at conflict resolution. We are firm believers in the benefits of counseling. We went to Karen once together and then the following week individually.
To keep this short I will just share some of my red flags:
1. I have an autoimmune disease, Celiac Disease, and Karen firmly stated that she believes autoimmune diseases are self inflicted because it is just emotional trauma you need to heal from. Obviously going against all science.
2. When my husband stated his parents were divorced her IMMEDIATE follow up question was "who cheated?" I find that absolutely unprofessional to plant this idea that someone cheated; causing more harm than good. And in this case from everything we know, no one cheated, they unfortunately grew apart.
3. During our first session in the process of talking about ourselves she started crying. I kid you not. She claimed that she feels emotions and that someone in the room needed to cry. My husband and I were very confused because we were not even talking about anything emotional or needed to cry.
4. My husband and I were hoping to spread the sessions out instead of coming weekly and spending $180 each week. When I asked her if I could schedule two weeks out, she responded with, there's momentum in counseling and that she also forgets things and its best to come weekly. I found it extremely unprofessional to state that she forgets things easily, and because of that we should be coming weekly.
5. Overall, it was a bad experience. I also talked to another friend that has actually gone to her as well, and unfortunately didn't have a positive experience.
I just hope this is helpful for anyone seeking out a professional counselor.

Karen is realistic and optimistic, she gives you the tools you need to accomplish the steps ahead of you, however daunting, but what has impressed me most is that she in more concerned about you as a person than she is about an agenda of any kind. We’ve shifted a few times along the way as she’s seen how I’ve handled and responded to difficulties. She’s truly for me and gives me lots of wisdom to keep in mind and walk in. As I continue along I can see more and more just how wise she is!

I have been to Karen several times since 2010. She is very personable and willing to find the underlying reasons for “why” things are happening in life. She offers Christian counseling making Christ the center of every session. I would recommend her over and over and over again.

Years ago my husband went to see Karen. It was not an easy decision for him to talk to a counselor and it was a horrible experience that has kept him from talking to counselors to this day. She assumed things without ever actually getting to know him and labeled him as a narcissist. She then brought me in, called me by the wrong name, and told me to leave him. We were absolutely devastated and hopeless in the parking lot. He’s not a narcissist, he was hurting, and this experience did more damage than good.
One of the best places for theropy! They work with kids and adults. Our kiddo has had amazing results from them!
